2028 Elections: Ghana needs a leader like Julius Debrah to continue John Mahama’s good legacy – NDC communicator

As the various political parties, especially the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) and New Patriotic Party (NPP), kickstart preparation for the 2028 general election with the selection of party officers from the polling station level through to the national level as well as presidential candidates, Mr Julius Debrah, the current Chief of Staff, has been tipped by a large number of NDC as the favourite person to lead the party after President John Mahama ends his second term on January 6, 2029.

One of the large numbers of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who has openly declared support for the Chief Staff, is Mr Abambila John, who is eyeing the deputy secretary position in the Ahafo Ano North constituency in the Ashanti region.

He, therefore, is calling on the NDC fraternity across the country to support Mr Julius Debrah.

According to him, Ghana needs a leader like Julius Debrah to continue John Mahama’s good legacy.Sharing more light on Mr Julius Debrah’s chances of winning the NDC presidential primaries on Monday, 18th May, 2026, with journalists, Mr Abambila revealed that after conducting a survey in 10 regions in Ghana, it was clear that Hon. Julius Debrah is poised to win the presidential primaries in NDC.He explained that their sample size was over three thousand five hundred (3,500) people, comprising NDC delegates and floating voters.

Out of the people sampled, the majority of the number representing 39% preferred Julius Debrah. Closely followed by Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the NDC national chairman, with 24%; Dr Ato Forson, the Finance Minister, had 20%; Professor Joshua Larbi, 10%; and Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, 7%, respectively.

Mr Abambila John explained further that “we spoke to NDC delegates and floating voters. We spoke to business persons; their responses point to Julius Debrah as the successor to John Mahama.

We captured who a potential candidate in the NDC is after John Mahama.

Besides, we spoke to them about leadership qualities, experience, and creating opportunities for all and out of it.39% call on NDC delegates to give Julius Debrah the leading chance. Stressing that “businessmen and floating voters all want Julius Debrah to lead NDC when forms are opened.

‘This assertion’, he said, ‘indicates clearly that Ghana needs a leader like Julius Debrah to continue John Mahama’s good legacy.’
