ADOPT GOOD PR STRATEGY TO EDUCATE THE PUBLIC WELL ON YOUR ANNUAL REPORTS -Sekyere Kumawu DCE advises Auditor General

The office of the Auditors General has been urged by the District Chief Executive of Sekyere –Kumawu, Hon. Samuel Addai Agyekum to use a PR strategy when releasing its report.

He asserts that the Auditor General must first educate or thoroughly explain to the public about the annual reports that are made available.

The role of the Audit Service is to audit and report on the public accounts of Ghana and all public offices, including the courts, the central and local government administration, the Universities and public institutions of like nature, of any public corporation or other body or organization established by an Act of Parliament.

Hon Addai Agyekum speaking on Ashh Fm’s afternoon show dubbed Key Note challenged the audit service to ensure that reports produced by the Auditor General create the desired impact and benefits for all Ghanaians.

‘I believe the audit service is working hard, but they need to do a better job of explaining to ordinary Ghanaians that not all of the money cited in the report is the result of misappropriation; some of it is actually the result of uncollected debts, irregularities, and bad record-keeping, so effective public education can help’.

He said although the law requires all public entities to be audited annually and reports submitted to Parliament, the audit issues raised on the various entities audited are not of equal magnitude.

“In this way, audit reports play a useful role in causing the needed and necessary improvement to better the lives of citizens through improved service delivery,” Hon Agyekum stated

In order to stop the public from falsely crucifying public officers, he urged the audit service to step up its public education efforts.

The hard-working DCE explained that, Because the public is uneducated and doesn’t understand the report, some propagandists accuse the current administration of being corrupt, which is untrue.
