Ashanti Media, MTN Hold Maiden Health Walk

By:Isaac Amoah

There was big jubilation when media practitioners in the Ashanti Region, led by the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Chairman in the region, Mr. Kingsley E. Hope, in collaboration with the staff of MTN Ghana, a leading telecommunication giant, embarked on a maiden health walk through the principal streets of Kumasi, the Ashanti regional capital.

Over 100 participants hit the streets of Kumasi on Saturday, 23rd December 2023, to stress off after working throughout the year.

The maiden health walk was initiated by GJA and sponsored by MTN Ghana to strengthen the cordial working relationship between the media and the leading telecommunication network.

The over four-hour health walk started from the Nhyiaeso Office of MTN amid brass band music through to Ahodwo Roundabout, Asokwa Interchange, Kumasi Mall, Dadiesoaba, Ahmadiyya SHS, KMA and to Lancaster Street. They converged on the headquarters of MTN for aerobics and penalty shootouts.

Officials of Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) and some military officers took participants through some drills.
Sponsored by MTN Ghana, there were enough jollof, fried rice, waakye and kenkey for participants.

In his speech, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of GJA, Mr. Kingsley E. Hope, expressed appreciation to media colleagues and partners who participated in the maiden health.

Mr. Hope, who is the Ashanti regional editor for the “Ghanaian Times” newspaper, also thanked MTN Ghana for sponsoring the maiden health walk and urged it to make it an annual event.

On his part, the Northern Business Sector acting Commercial Manager of MTN Ghana, Mr. Simon Amoh, stated that the need for all Ghanaians to embark on a regular exercise could not be overemphasised to help them stress off after long walking days.

He said media practitioners were not exceptional since they (journalists) go through at a lot of stress in their work to be able to provide the needed information to the public.

He added that in doing so, journalists put their health at risk, hence the decision of MTN Ghana to sponsor the health walk.
