PRESS STATEMENT

The Nasara Wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Ashanti Region, wishes to register its strongest displeasure against the recent utterances by Prophet Isaac Owusu Bempah, in which he alleged that certain leading members of the party were planning to use members of our wing to attack his church.

As a wing of the NPP established to mobilise support for settler and migrant communities across the country, we find this allegation not only false but deeply distasteful.

It is appalling that such a statement should come from a man who parades himself as a man of God, yet appears determined to sow division and hatred rather than peace and understanding.

It is our considered view that Prophet Owusu Bempah is on a crusade to create divisions in our society along religious and tribal lines. This is inconsistent with the values of tolerance, unity, and national cohesion that Ghana has worked hard to build. We note, with regret, that his conduct stands in sharp contrast to the professionalism and restraint that other men and women of God, and other churches across the country, have consistently displayed towards their spiritual mission, even where they hold differing political views.

We consider his latest allegation a serious indictment on the Nasara Wing and what it represents: unity in diversity, and the mobilisation of settler communities into the mainstream of national political life without regard to tribe or religion. To suggest that our members would be deployed to attack a place of worship is a slur not only on our leadership but on the thousands of peace-loving members across the country who belong to this wing.

We hereby give Prophet Isaac Owusu Bempah an ultimatum to retract this false allegation and render an unqualified apology to the Nasara Wing and the NPP within a reasonable time. Failure to do so will compel us to explore all legitimate options available to us to protect the image and integrity of this wing and its leadership.

We wish to state emphatically that no amount of hatred, propaganda, or divisive rhetoric will change the resolve of well-meaning Ghanaians, irrespective of their religious or tribal affiliation, to vote massively for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the 2028 general elections.

We also wish to place on record that the Nasara wing is not a Muslim wing as being portrayed but rather a group meant for all settler communities, which may include Christians and other religious groups.

Finally, we call on the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council, the Christian Council of Ghana, The Catholics Bishop Conference, The Ghana Evangelical and Charismatic Churches and other ecumenical bodies to speak up against this pattern of conduct and to call Prophet Owusu Bempah to order.

The pulpit must not be turned into a platform for tribal and religious bigotry, and we trust that the church, as an institution, will not be silent in the face of this.
