The Ashanti Regional minister

Dear sir,

PETITION TO DRAW THE ATTENTION OF GOVERNMENT ON THE CURRENT ECONOMIC CRISIS AND IT’S EFFECT ON TRADERS .

There are lot of issues that are affecting the future and the fortunes of traders in Ghana and that is what we want to bring to the attention of the president of republic of Ghana.

First and foremost,
the rapid depreciation of the cedi to the dollar and other foreign currencies has given us a great concerns to ask the government and it’s economic planning team what are they actually doing about it? The rate at which the cedi is depreciating is really given our members and the business community as a whole a huge loses. Prices of goods goods & services keep escalating at an outrageous price and therefore affects our members negatively . Our question is what is the government really doing about it?

Secondly, the business fraternity in this country is suffering a huge setbacks.
In our view another major factor yielding to the crises is as a result of the poor management of the economy and the west Africa free trade treaty that has been signed which it’s enforcement and compliance has been neglected.
This in our view has led to foreigners taking over our market and economy and thereby affecting business negatively.

Furthermore, our members are being bombarded with huge tax assessment which they are
expected to pay for the government to raise monies to run economy efficiently but yet still the government careless about the welfare of these traders and businesss.
Most businesses have collapsed, our members are losing their monies as a result of the rapid depreciation of the cedi.
Some of our members are even dying and having strokes out of the pressure from banks because of inability to pay back their bank loans .
How do we then pay these huge tax assessment filed to our members by the Ghana revenue authority?
We are therefore calling on the government to get in touch with the GRA to review and reduce the huge tax assessment that are sent to our members to pay in this this very difficult financial year.

Lastly, because the cedi has depreciated rapidly in the year 2022 till date, we are pleading with the government to inject monies into the business community through their corporate groups so that by next year we will have a good financial balance sheet to pay our taxes.
The government must also make sure the laws that prevents foreigners from retailing in our market community is rigorously enforced to protect the local business from collapsing .

In conclusion, we call on the government and the economy management team as a matter of agency to look into the above stated challenges mentioned to come out with quick solution that will sustain businesss in Ashanti region and Ghana as a whole.
We also want to emphasize that, if the trend goes on like this and nothing is done about it, we will advise.
Thank you.

Yours faithfully
