Mr & Mrs Gyebi aka Kofi Job with Boaduwaa
Due to a hip problem, Boaduwaa required six different surgeries, but financial constraints had hindered her family from completing the process.
However, the Kofi Job Foundation stepped in, paying the surgery cost instantly.
The founders of the Kofi Job Foundation, Mr. Kofi Job Gyebi and his wife, Dr. Esther Okyere Gyebi, expressed that they were deeply moved by Boaduwaa’s condition and reiterated their foundation’s commitment to supporting and protecting the vulnerable in society.
Overwhelmed with gratitude, Boaduwaa broke down in tears during an interview, thanking the foundation for their kindness.
She noted that she wouldn’t have been able to raise the funds on her own and expressed hope that the surgery would enable her to walk again and care for her family.
With the payment made, Boaduwaa is now awaiting a surgery date from the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
This act of kindness by the Kofi Job Foundation has brought renewed hope to Boaduwaa and her family.

The General Overseer of Calvary Charismatic Center (CCC), Reverend Ransford Obeng has advised Christians to consciously keep the laws of health so they can prolong their lives on earth.
Addressing the media on his 69th birthday which was marked with a blood donation exercise at the church’s precincts on Saturday, Rev Obeng said he had kept a routine medical check up since becoming aware of his health status.
Reverend Ransford Obeng, General Overseer of Calvary Charismatic Center (CCC)
The CCC vision bearer said he has also taken to the advice from medical doctors in what he consumed and how he treated his body.
“God has given us grace to be in good health and to live long but we must consciously go for medical check ups to maintain our bodies and take to advice given to us by medical experts especially on what foods we ate so that we can stay healthy and live long to fulfil God’s divine agenda”, Rev Obeng encouraged.
KATH Transfusion Officer:
On his part, Shadrack Afful Appiah, Officer at the KATH Transfusion and Medicine Unit thanked Rev Obeng and the members of CCC for consistently reaching out to the unit by donating blood consistently for ten years.
He said the gesture mirrors the heart of the church and its congregation towards helping to save lives.
He disclosed that each day the Accident and Emergency Unit at KATH takes delivery of about 80 pints of blood from the Transfusion and Medicine unit to attend to emergency situations requiring the use of blood.
“KATH relies on benevolent organisations like CCC and many others to restock its Blood Bank since the need of blood at the hospital continues to be urgent and so aside voluntary donations we also use social media and other avenues to draw the attention of the public to donate blood anytime they are in a position to do so”, Mr Appiah stated.
Participants:
Taking turns to donate blood and to show love to their General Overseer, CCC members numbering over 100 were thoroughly screened before being allowed to donate blood.
Showing happiness having been able to donate blood, some members recalled how they had some misconceptions about blood donation.
Mrs Becky Obeng, CCC member said she had donated blood for 8 years now at CCC but said previously had some unexplained fears in doing so.
On his part, Mr Winston Tetteh, another member of CCC said he had donated blood two times a year since 1999 qhen he was at the University, noting that he also took advantage of the outreaches CCC and Luv Fm do at periodic intervals to do so despite fears he had previously at SHS level.
Health Walk:
Earlier in the day, men at CCC numbering about 500 took over the streets of Ayigya and the Kumasi Metropolis with a health walk.
Setting off from the church’s premises at Ayigya the members walked through the KNUST stretch through to Anloga and to Amakom and ended at the Kumasi City Mall where they engaged in some forms of aerobic exercises.
Speaking to this reporter, Pastor George Ampratwum (Buma) said the walk was held in preparation of the upcoming Father’s day.
“Ahead of the upcoming Father’s day, CCC men have scheduled series of programs and today’s walk is part including a seminar and others with the climax being a celebration service at CCC where everything from worship to the preaching of the word and all other things would be done by men at CCC who will be wearing traditional smock”, Pastor Buma explained.By Michael Ofosu-Afriyie, Kumasi
The ongoing strike by nurses in public hospitals across Ghana continues to severely impact healthcare delivery, leaving patients stranded and medical services disrupted.
In many health facilities, nurses have abandoned post, leaving patients stranded.
The Ministry of Health has responded by issuing a series of emergency directives aimed at maintaining essential healthcare services while the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) proceeds with its industrial action.
In a statement released by Tony Goodman, spokesperson for the ministry, a high-level meeting took place on May 30, 2025, between the Ministry and major stakeholders in the nursing and midwifery sector. The meeting included representatives from the GRNMA, the Union of Professional Nurses and Midwives (UPNMG), the Ghana Registered Midwives Association (GRMA), the National Association of Registered Midwives (NARM-G), the Psychiatric Nurses Association of Ghana (PAPNG), and the Nurses and Midwives Educators Society.
At the meeting, the unions presented a unified demand for the implementation of a Collective Agreement signed in 2024, which they claim has not been honored. Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh assured the stakeholders that their concerns would be addressed promptly.
While most of the associations agreed to continue offering services, the GRNMA maintained its position to go ahead with the strike, prompting the Ministry to prepare for the disruption.
In many hospitals, nurses have abandoned post, leaving patients tranded at the OPD
Ministry responds with contingency plans
In anticipation of the strike’s impact, the Ministry has instructed public health facilities to activate contingency plans. Key measures include:
Hospital managers, especially Directors of Nursing Services and their Deputies, are required to be present at work throughout the strike period.
Unit heads must ensure that maternity and emergency services remain operational in all hospitals.
The Ambulance Service is to remain on standby across all districts to assist with emergency cases.
Coordinating structures are to be set up to manage emergencies, ensuring a continuous link with ambulance services.
Daily reports on service delivery from the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, CEO’s, and Medical Directors of Teaching Hospitals will be submitted to the Acting Chief Director of the Ministry.
The Ministry will collaborate with quasi-government health facilities to handle the expected increase in patient numbers during the strike.
Rotational nurses and nurses undergoing mandatory clinicals have been advised not to participate in the strike.
The Ministry emphasized that it is closely monitoring the situation to ensure that all necessary logistics and support systems are in place to mitigate the disruption caused by the industrial action.
While acknowledging the nurses and midwives who have chosen not to join the strike, the Ministry has reiterated its appeal to the GRNMA to reconsider its decision, highlighting that discussions are ongoing to resolve the outstanding issues.Source: Myjoyonline.com
A Senior Midwife of the Ghana Health Service, Madam Charity Azaare, has advocater a closer partnership among community leaders, school authorities and mothers of adolescent girls in school to prepare the girls psychologically, emotionally and logistically before they experience their first menstrual period.
Such a collaboration will greatly contribute to self-worth, self-awareness, eliminate stigmatization and engender better personal and environmental hygiene among girls when they reach puberty stage while avoiding some of the problems associated with the monthly period such as infections and unwanted pregnancies.
Some scenes from the ceremony
Madam Azaare, gave the advice during separate for a at Nintin and Hwidiem in the Mampong Municipality of the Ashanti region to mark this year’s ‘World Menstrual Day.”
The ‘World Menstrual Hygiene Day’ is commemorated every year to help create increased public education about the hygienic way to manage menstrual periods better to avoid contracting diseases including infections while facilitating access to heathier resources.
For the second
consecutive year, the Assembly Member for the Nintin Electoral Area in the Mampong Municipality of Ashanti, in partnership with Sunda International, helped basic schools at Nintin and Hwidiem to observe the Day which was marked across the world.
Separate fora were held for adolescent girl pupils and their female teachers.
Girls in upper primary and Junior High Schools as well as female teachers from all six basic schools in the two communities, namely the R/C Primary, M/A Junior High, Presby Primary and Junior High all at Nintin in addition to their counterparts from the Hwidiem M/A Primary and Junior High scholls, were taken through the female anatomy and why they must experience menstruation monthly.
A Midwife and Community Nurse took turns to take the participants through the most appropriate way to wear the sanitary pad to avoid embarrassment and contracting infections as well as how to dispose of the used pads.
Additionally, they were educated on how to keep themselves healthy during that period of the month.
They were also each given, at least two months’ supply of sanitary pads donated by Sunda International to support the celebration.
A Senior Midwife with the Mampong Municipal Health directorate, Madam Charity Azaare, called for a greater collaboration among mothers, school authorities and community leaders to prepare teenage girls mentally and materially even before experiencing their first menstruation so as to forestall the challenges that are usually associated with the stage including unwanted pregnancies.
“Their parents have to be involved because most of them, their parents don’t know know when their children start to menstruate. So even sometimes when they get pregnant, they don’t know because though they’re in the house but she doest know anything concerning her menstrual cycle”, she observed.
Mad. Azaare told the participants that each female’s menstrual flow varies from the other but ranges between 2 and 7 days. They should therefore not be too anxious show their period end before the 7th day.
The midwife was however quick to advise the, if they see any unusual occurrence with their bodies or menstruation, they must promptly report to either their teachers or parents for immediate medical examination to identify the reasons and solutions before any complications sets in.
The Assembly Member for the Nintin Electoral Area, Nicholas Osei-Wusu, explained that, mobilizing resources to support female teachers and adolescent girls in his Electoral Area during the World Menstrual Day is to help reduce the stigma, absenteeism and low self-esteem particularly the girl child suffer during her menstrual cycle.
Madam Charity Azaare,
He said, “it’d be worthwhile if we all get involved, especially as the leader of the Electoral Area. When they see you getting involved, the atimatization they sometimes face, the absenteeism, the poor academic performance associated with menstruation, these things they would do away with and that’s the objective I’ve set for myself.”
Mr. Osei-Wusu expressed appreciation to Sunda International and its Soft Care subsidiary for the logistical support offered to support the programme.
The Queen of Nintin, Nana Anoswah Okyekyerekuro, advised girls in school not to look down on themselves when they first experience the phenomenon since it is natural with every healthy female of their age.
She advised them also to adhere to proper personal and environmental hygiene during the period to reduce the incidences of sicknesses.
The Queen mother commended the Assembly Member for showing keen interest in the developmemt of the girl child and female teachers.
The Presiding Member of the Mampong Municipal Assembly, Daniel Oduro, described the initiative by the Nintin Assembly Member to support the female teachers and girl pupils with both education and pads as worthy of emulation by all members of the Municipal Assembly.
This year’s ‘World Menstrual Hygiene Day’ was observed on the theme: “#PeriodFriendlyWorld” to promote access to safe menstruation resources fro especially girls and also is to enhance access to safer resources for menstruation.
Legal counsel for embattled Ashanti Regional Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako aka Chairman Wontumi, has confirmed that his client has been hospitalised.
This was after his arrest and interrogation by state security officers.
Speaking to reporters after hours of legal and police proceedings, lawyer and NPP Member of Parliament, Andy Appiah-Kubi, revealed that Wontumi fell ill during the interrogation process and was subsequently transferred to a hospital for medical attention.
“My client has been taken to the hospital for medical treatment,” he disclosed.
“We haven’t finished with the interrogation, so we will come back to continue — hopefully tomorrow, if his condition improves. Otherwise, he will remain there until doctors discharge him.”
The dramatic turn of events follows the arrest of Chairman Wontumi under what NPP leaders have described as “intimidatory” circumstances.
Chairman Wontumi
According to party officials, Wontumi had initially honoured a police invitation and was at the CID headquarters responding to questions when he was suddenly whisked away by heavily armed, masked officers and detained for further investigation.
While details of the allegations against him remain unclear, Mr Appiah-Kubi said that the police had “preferred some allegations” against his client, to which he had already responded.
The interrogation was, however, interrupted due to his deteriorating health.
In a parallel development, Mr Appiah-Kubi also revealed that a writ of summons from Exim Bank was served on Wontumi earlier in the day, adding a civil legal dimension to the unfolding drama.
“We have also received this afternoon a writ of summons from Exim Bank, and we are going to respond to the pleadings tomorrow,” he confirmed.
“We are very hopeful that we’ll be able to mount a defence.”
He was keen to distinguish between the civil and criminal elements of the ongoing case.
“This is one of a supposed criminal investigation, but I am confident that we will be able to put up a defence,” he said.
“We consider the Exim Bank issue a civil matter, and that’s how we will respond to it in court.”
The hospitalisation of Chairman Wontumi adds a new layer of tension to a politically charged situation that has already sparked strong reactions from within the NPP.
Several party leaders, including National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye, have denounced the arrest as politically motivated and reminiscent of “dark days” of political intimidation.
As the party awaits further updates on Wontumi’s health and legal status, Mr Appiah-Kubi insisted the NPP will continue to engage with the process but will not be cowed into silence.
“We’re cooperating. We believe in the rule of law,” he stated.
The party says it will provide further updates as events unfold.
The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has confirmed 10 new cases of Monkeypox (Mpox), raising the country’s total to 19 recorded infections.
According to the GHS, five of the newly confirmed patients are currently hospitalised and receiving treatment. No fatalities have been reported in connection with the recent outbreak.
Mpox is a viral disease transmitted through close contact with infected individuals, animals, or contaminated materials. Common symptoms include fever, rash, swollen lymph nodes, muscle aches, back pain, headaches, and fatigue.
In response, health authorities are urging the public to observe strict preventive measures. These include frequent handwashing, avoiding physical contact with symptomatic individuals—especially those with unexplained rashes—and reporting suspected cases to the nearest health facility without delay.Source:Juliana Odame Asare

Ghanaian Council of Chief’s in Netherlands in collaboration with UnityLink Financial Services and the entire Ghanaian community in the Netherlands, has donated $11,000 to support the “Heal Komfo Anokye” project, a major health initiative championed by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
The donation was officially presented at the Manhyia Palace during the Awukudae festival celebration on Tuesday, May 7.
The Chief Executive Officer of UnityLink Group, Harry Ouedraogo, presented the cheque on behalf of the group to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, expressing their commitment to contributing meaningfully to the renovation and modernization of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).
“We are proud to support this noble cause in collaboration with the chiefs and people of Asanteman,” Mr. Ouedraogo said. “we’re pledging not only short-term support, but also looking into long-term collaboration with the palace to see how we can enhance our contribution to the Heal Komfo Anokye initiative.”
Harry Ouedraogo
Besides,he encouraged members of the diaspora to rally behind the project, which aims to transform the region’s premier medical facility into a world-class health center.
Mr. Ouedraogo, also extended belated birthday wishes to the Asantehene and expressed appreciation for being granted an audience during the ceremony.
The “Heal Komfo Anokye” project, launched by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, seeks to renovate and upgrade the nearly 70-year-old teaching hospital to provide improved healthcare services to millions across Ghana and West Africa. The entire project is estimated to cost 10 million dollars.
Prof. Otchere Addai-Mensah, the immediate past Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), has conveyed his deepest appreciation to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei-Tutu II, former President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo and President John Dramani Mahama for the opportunity given him to serve the country.
He noted that his ascension to the coveted position of CEO of KATH and his successful tenure could not have been possible without the endorsement, support and the chance accorded him by the Asantehene and the former and current Presidents to serve in that role.
Prof. Otchere Addai-Mensah
In a statement released in Kumasi today, Prof. Addai-Mensah, who was given a standing ovation yesterday during his last meeting with staff members, cited the historic intervention of the Asantehene in the comprehensive renovation of the old blocks under the Asantehene’s Heal Komfo Anokye Project as an example of the critical support he received from the Manhyia Palace.
He also singled out Hon. Francis Assenso Boakye, Member of Parliament for Bantama for the facilitating role he played in his appointment.
“My time as the head of the management team of the second largest tertiary hospital in Ghana has been one of the most defining moments in my life and I am most grateful to all those through whom I was given the opportunity and support to serve in that capacity”, the statement noted.
Details:
The statement continued “I am also indebted to the management, staff and other partners whose sacrifices, encouragement and prayers were pivotal in helping to reposition the hospital as a leading centre for tertiary healthcare, training and research during my term of office”.
Background:
Prof. Addai-Mensah assumed duty as the CEO of KATH on 1st December 2022 and served until April 2022.
His tenure witnessed a seismic shift in the operations of the hospital earning him praise from both staff and members of the public.
Through the adoption of innovative interventions including governance, operational, staff welfare and patient-centred reforms, he was able to nearly double the Internally Generated Funds (IGF) of the hospital in just two years from Ghc 115,819,364.10 in 2022 to Ghc 222,619,078.51 in 2024.
As a result of the judicious use of the improved revenues of the hospital, he was able to undertake a number of interventions including large scale retooling, upgrading of infrastructure, pro-patient and enhanced staff welfare initiatives.
Retooling and Renovation:
The Dialysis Unit of the hospital for instance saw a quantum jump in the number of machines from two in 2022 to 20 machines by the end of 2024 resulting in the remarkable expansion in access to specialist dialysis services at the hospital.
The dilapidated Main Theatre of the hospital which has five Operating Rooms also underwent a comprehensive renovations at the cost of over Ghc4.4m whiles the Physiotherapy Unit was similarly renovated at the cost of about Ghc1.6m.
Through IGF, a Ghc43m Pharmacy Complex is currently under construction at the hospital.
Staff Welfare:
He also instituted Directors’ and Deputy Directors’ weekend and holiday duty system to ensure executive presence and supervision at all times at the hospital.
Until this, there was little executive management presence at the hospital during holidays and weekends leading to weak supervision and absenteeism during such days.
He extensively used his personal network of friends, families, and other acquaintances to mobilise substantial material and financial resources valued in millions of Ghana Cedis in furtherance of hospital operations and payment of needy patients’ bills.
Examples are the donation of medical equipment such as suction machines and patient monitors by his church, the Officers’ Mess Squash Club, and the Tennis Club in Kumasi among others.
Measures:
Prof. Addai-Mensah abolished the payment of fees by patients for the use of public places of convenience at the hospital soon upon assuming office and introduced a courier service for the home delivery of refill medicines for chronic but stable patients in partnership with the Ghana Post.
This has saved stable patients who come to the hospital monthly just for their medicines from the risk of travelling from far and near for their medicines.
He enhanced staff medical package from Ghc3,000 a year per staff to Ghc4,000, the first upward review of the package in over 10 years and directed its incorporation into the hospital’s Electronic Medical Records System.
This saved staff members from having to pay upfront for medical care before applying for a refund as it used to be in the case before his assumption of office.
Innovation:
The increase in the package, and its computerization has since led to a jump in medical care benefits for staff and their immediate family members from about Ghc750,000.00 in 2022 to almost Ghc4,000,000.00 on 2024, over 500 percentage increase.
He also embarked on an aggressive drive to mobilise private sector resources for a major facelift
of the hospital.
Sponsors:
With support from Neuce Paints, Alex Nuamah Enterprise, Osons Chemists, and others the Doctors’ Flats, ENT Block, Kitchen/Canteen, Breast Centre, and Laundry Unit and Nurses blocks among others were all given facelifts to improve the general environment of the hospital.
With the approval of the immediate past Board, he oversaw the procurement of one brand new Toyota mini bus and two Mitsubishi pick-up trucks at the cost of Ghc2.6m in 2024 using IGF to help renew the aged fleet of the hospital.
This was in addition to his successful acquisition of Toyota Landcruiser from the Ministry of Health, in intervention which has helped to improve the acute transportation situation of the hospital.
There is no doubt that the tenure of Prof. Addai-Mensah as the CEO of KATH has been transformative no wonder the staff members gave him a spontaneous standing ovation during his last durbar with them on Monday.
