The National Health Students Association of Ghana (NAHSAG) has strongly condemned what they describe as an illegal attempt to manipulate the association’s leadership. Various student associations under NAHSAG have expressed disappointment in the 2022 administration’s actions, accusing them of undermining the democratic process by imposing their preferred candidates.
In an official statement, the presidents of these associations unequivocally dissociated themselves from the disputed election, reaffirming Ernest Agyare as the rightful president of NAHSAG. They urged their members to stand by him, highlighting his exemplary leadership and significant achievements.
The associations also pointed to a court ruling that explicitly barred the 2022 executives from conducting any elections, making their actions legally void. Despite this, the 2022 executives proceeded with an election involving only 20 students, where all candidates ran unopposed—an act seen as a blatant disregard for democratic principles.
Among the associations condemning the election are:
Federation of Ghana Medical Laboratory Students Association
Physician Assistants Students Association
University Nursing Students Association of Ghana
Federation of Ghana Medical Imaging Students Association
Ghana Association of Health Training Institutions
Federation of Ghana Medical Students Association
Pharmaceutical Sciences Federation Ghana
These associations have called on all members to reject the illegitimate election and instead rally behind the duly recognized 2024/25 administration, led by Ernest Agyare. They reaffirm their commitment to upholding democratic values and ensuring the integrity of NAHSAG’s leadership process.

Some scenes from the event
The blood donation exercise, which has become an annual ritual, took place in three zones across various locations in the 16 regions of Ghana, with the aim of raising awareness about the importance of blood.
The donation exercise is part of the celebration of love and giving synonymous with Valentine’s Day.
In the northern zone, the blood donation exercise took place concurrently at KNUST Senior High School, Bonwire Senior High School and Asanteman Senior High School.
It was quite impressive to see students on Friday, 14th February 2025, eagerly gathered to donate blood.

Speaking to the media, Mr. Simon Amoh, MTN Ghana Senior Manager, General Trade (Northern Ghana), revealed that since the exercise started about 14 years ago, 29,000 units of blood had so far been collected to the national blood bank.
He said, last year, they collected 5,000 units or points of blood and decided to increase it to 6,100 units of blood this year. “We’re very hopeful to meet our target with the support of our stakeholders,” he added.
Mr. Amoh, who was very grateful to their customers, staff and the general public for always supporting the exercise, indicated that the company would sustain the exercise.
Mr.Simon Amoh speaking to the media
According to him, the impact of the exercise for the past 14 years has been very significant and based on the feedback from the National Blood Authority, it encourages them to do more since there is still the need for more blood donors.
Mr. Amoh recognised the significance of giving back to society, hence the annual blood donation exercise.
He said, “We at MTN Ghana believe in the power of giving and what better way to celebrate Valentine’s Day than by donating the gift of life through blood donation.”

This initiative began in 2011 in response to appeals from the National Blood Service for voluntary contributions to address the critically low blood supplies. Over the years, the exercise has successfully raised over 29,000 units of blood.

“So far, we have been able to mobilise GH¢30,000 and because of inflation, among other factors, we decided not wait and decided to donate what we’ve mobilised to support the project.
Dr.Ebenezer Agyemang speaking to the media
We shall definitely come back to support the project as and when we’re able to mobilise more funds from the sale of our products,” he said.

He continued, “Our donation is also to encourage others not to wait to donate, thinking that their money is too small for the project. Let’s all come on board to support our King’s initiative.”
Besides, he used the opportunity to advise Ghanaians to patronise EPHC products for their general well-being.
“Apart from improving their well-being for using EHPC products, they would also help the company to donate more to support the ‘Heal Komfo Anokye project’,” he noted.
Aside from the GH¢30,000 cheque presented, the company also donated some of its products such as Pavi Herbal Mixture, Plasmox Herbal Mixture and capsules to the “Heal Komfo Anokye” project team and management team to enable them to continue to be healthy and strong for the assignment given to them by Otumfuo.
Speaking to the media, Dr. Agyemang was highly impressed with the marvelous work done at KATH.
He was full of praise for Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, “Heal Komfo Anokye” project committee, CEO of KATH, Prof. Addai-Mensah, management of the hospital and donors.
He also appealed to all Ghanaians, especially those in the Asante Kingdom, to support the project.
Mr Kwadwo Sarbeng, Medical Director of KATH, and Ms.
Afua Sam, Director of Nursing at KATH, among other management staff members, received the donation on behalf of the CEO and the “Heal Komfo Anokye” project committee.
Mr. Sarbeng commended EHPC for its kind gesture. He said like Oliver Twist, they would continue to appeal to all Ghanaians to come out with their donations to help ensure complete renovation of the hospital.
According to him, as has already been indicated, since the construction of the hospital in 1950, there has not been any major renovation such as the initiative by Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
“We still need more support to ensure the completion of the project,” he appealed.
He indicated that major referral cases of 12 out of 16 regions come to the hospital.
The KGL Group of companies has honoured its significant obligation to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and the people of Asanteman
with commencement of the construction of a state-of-the-art mental health facility in Asanteman, a landmark project that reinforces the Group’s dedication to the welfare of the communities it operates in.
The multi million-dollar ultra-modern mental health facility, to be completed in 12 months, is the first of its kind north of Ghana and aims to provide comprehensive mental health services to address the growing needs within the Ashanti region. This initiative is part of the KGL Group, through its foundation, the KGL Foundation’s ongoing commitment to raising mental health awareness and providing essential support across the country.
The Ashanti Region, recognized as a crucial hub for the operations of KGL Group of Companies, will greatly benefit from enhanced mental health resources. The facility is designed to serve not only Asanteman but also the surrounding regions, ensuring accessible care for individuals grappling with mental health challenges.
“Our investment in this facility underscores our commitment to improving mental health awareness and resources in Ghana,” said the Executive Chairman of the KGL Group. “We believe that mental health is a vital component of overall wellness, and we are dedicated to supporting initiatives that promote mental health education and care.”
The construction of this ultra-modern facility further highlights KGL Group’s substantial contributions to the development of Asanteman over the past four years. Alex Dadey noted, “This latest endeavor builds upon our previous efforts in support of Asanteman. Notably, we played a key role as one of the major contributors to the Otumfuo Commemorative Gold Coin, honoring His Majesty’s significant legacy and contributions to the community. In light of 25 Significant years of Otumfuo’s rule, it is imperative that we continue to significantly support Asanteman, and the KGL Group will continue to do so”.
KGL Group is excited to contribute to the socio-economic development of the Ashanti Region through this vital project, fostering a healthier future for all residents. The facility’s construction represents a significant step towards de-stigmatizing mental health issues and providing necessary support for those in need.
HRH Lady Julia Osei Tutu on behalf of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II expressed her profound appreciation for the strides Alex Dadey continues to make in transforming the country through the KGL Group. She further highlighted how significant this facility is to the fight against Mental Health stigmatisation. She explained, “Ghana’s Mental health sector is in dire need of support. It is why I am really excited by what we are witnessing here today. This facility will transform access to mental health support in the region and I want to thank Alex Dadey and Elliot Dadey, who run’s the foundation, for this massive intervention”.
Mr. Alex Apau Dadey, an authority in the implementation of Public-Private Partnership & Private-Private Partnership Business Models in Africa through the KGL Foundation has been providing support to several healthcare facilities across the Country especially with the free supply of incubators and medical devices, as well as ensuring the sustainable financing of primary healthcare delivery to orphans, widows, and destitute children in Ghana.
Despite reneging on its duty to repair and renovate the almost 70 year old dilapidated Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital building, the past government was collecting duties on all items purchased outside Ghana to commence the comprehensive renovation works being done on the facility.
Speaking to newsmen, Oheneba Boachie-Adjei Woahene II, Otumfuo Hiahene and member of the Heal Komfo Anokye Project (HeKaP) Committee expressed worry about the attitude of government.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and Prof Addai-Mensah,CEO of KATH during the inspection of the project
He noted that originally government should have been the one carrying out the renovation works and borne the cost of same since that was urgently needed to put the health facility in good shape.
“Otumfuo is impressed with the high quality of renovation works at KATH by the HeKaP committee but for us we believe government could have taken off duties on items being used for the project so that we could be able to have some more cash to do other needed works here”, the Hiahene stated

Appeal:
The Hiahene therefore appealed to the incoming Health Minister and government to see to how they could help out in taking away cost of duties on items purchased for the renovation project.
The Chief said if the committee was able to achieve this goal, it would be in a good position to apply the solicited funds to works needed to be done on the project.
The Otumfuo Hiahene said to avoid unduly delays of the project, the committee decided to pay the duties on the items just so they could use it to carry out works needed to be done on the facility.
“The committee decided to pay the hefty duties on the items for the renovation so that such did not delay the work we intended to do but it would have been nice if the previous government had seen wisdom and helping out”, the Chief stressed.
Project Committee Chairman:
Mr Sammy Adu-Boakye, HeKaP Committee Chairman speaking on the matter said they needed to commence the project on time and decided to use both high quality local or imported items.
This, he noted made them to take a decision to bear the cost of duties at the port so that they could avoid undue delays.
The Ghanaian currency, he noted has suffered depreciation for long and it was untenable to argue with government to take off the duties while the project was being delayed.
“We are happy that we’ve achieved 40% percent rate in our fund raising drive and for us we are committed to applying what we have now to carry out the renovations but would plead with all Ghanaians to contribute to the good course which was launched by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II aimed at putting KATH on its feet”, Mr Adu-Boakye appealed.

He said it is appointed for every man to die once and after that there is judgment. He, therefore, used the opportunity to appeal to all Ghanaians, especially those who are well-to-do, to share their wealth with the needy in society since government alone cannot shoulder that responsibility.
