Scores of supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Kwadaso Constituency in the Ashanti Region have taken to the streets to demand the removal of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Kwadaso, Eric Asibey.

The protesters, comprising ward coordinators, branch executives and other party supporters, accused the MCE of failing to effectively engage the party’s grassroots structures and called on President John Dramani Mahama to revoke his appointment.

The group made the demands during a demonstration in the constituency, where they presented a petition to the constituency party executives outlining several allegations against the MCE.

Addressing journalists on Wednesday, September 16, the NDC Branch Youth Organiser for the Sofoline Branch, Abdul Aziz Haruna, said the grassroots had engaged the MCE on several occasions and presented recommendations aimed at creating opportunities for party supporters and improving the welfare of constituents.

According to him, the failure to address the concerns raised by the grassroots had prompted the latest action, with the protesters urging the relevant authorities to intervene.

They are therefore calling on President John Dramani Mahama, the Chief of Staff, the Minister for Local Government, the Ashanti Regional Minister, as well as the party’s national, regional and constituency executives, to urgently revoke Mr Asibey’s appointment.

The protesters also raised concerns over the distribution of birds under the government’s Nkoko Nketekete initiative.

They alleged that slightly more than 3,000 birds were distributed to the constituency, instead of the 10,000 they expected to be made available to constituents.

Meanwhile, Municipal Chief Executive for Kwadaso, Eric Asibey denied all allegations levelled against him insisting that he is more focused on delivering on the mandate of President John Dramani Mahama in the
