Don’t use Dr.Bawumia’s name to campaign ahead of internal elections-Former NPP-UK Chairman warns aspirants

Former NPP-UK Chairman Hayford Atta-Krufi has issued a strong caution to all aspirants contesting in the New Patriotic Party’s upcoming internal elections, urging them to avoid campaigning with the name of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

Speaking on Bethel Radio/TV on Monday in an interview hosted by Thomas Oheneba Boakye, the former Chairman stressed that any aspirant who relies on another person’s name for political advantage lacks a clear message for delegates.

According to him, internal party contests—from polling station level through constituency, regional, and national offices—must be fought on personal merit, credibility, and track record, not borrowed influence.

He advised aspirants to focus their campaigns on what they have done, what they are doing, and what they intend to bring on board if elected, noting that this approach builds trust and strengthens internal democracy within the party.

He further explained that Dr Mahamudu Bawumia won the presidential primaries by campaigning on his own vision, ideas, and leadership qualities, adding that delegates listened directly to him rather than through surrogates.

In a firm warning, the former NPP-UK Chairman urged delegates to vote against any aspirant who campaigns using Dr Bawumia’s name, stressing that such practices undermine the integrity and credibility of the party’s internal electoral process.

The comments have since generated widespread discussion among party faithful, particularly within the diaspora, as the NPP prepares for a fresh round of internal elections anchored on discipline, accountability, and credible leadership.
