Ejura Yam Festival :Govt announces 10 km farm roads & rural electrification projects for Ejura

The government has announced plans to construct 10 kilometres of roads in Ejura under its Farm Road Projects, alongside ongoing efforts to improve rural electrification and road infrastructure in the area.

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, announced the projects during the climax of the 2026 Ejura Sekyerene Festival, held on Saturday, October 24, 2026.

He said the proposed farm roads would focus on agricultural communities, providing farmers with improved access routes to transport produce to markets and other destinations.

Dr Amoakohene noted that improved road networks were essential to supporting agricultural productivity in Ejura, one of Ghana’s important food-producing areas, where farmers contribute significantly to the country’s food supply.

“The construction of these farm roads will improve access to farming communities and make it easier for farmers to transport their produce,” the Regional Minister said.

RURAL ELECTRIFICATION TARGETS 27 COMMUNITIES

The Regional Minister further disclosed that 27 remote communities in the Ejura area had been earmarked for connection to the national electricity grid under the government’s rural electrification programme.

He indicated that 16 of the 27 communities had already been connected, while work was ongoing to extend electricity to the remaining 11 communities.

Dr Amoakohene assured residents that the Ministry of Energy was working towards completing the outstanding connections to ensure that more communities benefited from reliable electricity supply.

He explained that access to electricity would improve living conditions, support small businesses, and create opportunities for economic activities in communities that had long faced infrastructure challenges.

GOVERNMENT COMMENDS EJURAHENE’S DEVELOPMENTAL EFFORTS

The Regional Minister also disclosed that additional town-road projects were being undertaken to improve road conditions and make roads within Ejura more motorable.

He commended the Ejurahene, Barimah Osei Hwedie II, for his leadership and contribution to development initiatives, noting that the traditional ruler had been supportive of government programmes and had made himself and resources available to advance development in the area.

Dr Amoakohene said collaboration between traditional authorities and government was important to accelerating development and improving the welfare of residents.

The announced projects are expected to strengthen agricultural transportation, expand access to electricity, and improve mobility within Ejura and its surrounding communities.
