Fight the Law, not the appointing authority of GES Boss-Consultant

Mr. Williams Boakye-Baafi, Education Consultant has called on the various Pre tertairy Education Unions in Ghana to put an end to the media war they have declared aganist the appointment of one Dr.Eric Nkansah, a professional banker as the new Director General of the Ghana Education Service.

Mr. Williams Boakye- Baafi, who made the call in a media interview in Kumasi on Tuesday pointed out that according to the Pre-Tertairy Education ACT,2020(Act 1049) section 19(1) says that the President shall appoint a Director General for the Education Service unlike the Ghana Health Service ACT 1996( Act 525)which indicates that the person the president shall appoint to head the Ghana Health Service should be a health professional.

He explained that per the current law governing the Pre-Tertairy Education Instititions in Ghana ,the president of Ghana can appoint anyone the president deems fit to head the Ghana Edication Service.

The Education Consultant said that if there was any one to be attacked by the teacher nuions then it the Pre-Tertairy Education ACT 2020(Act 1049) not neither the appointing authority nor the appointee.

He urged the unions to rather push for the amendment of the law as early as possible to avoid future occurances.

He feared that if something was not done about the current law, a time would come a medical doctor or a media person with no teaching profession would be appointed as their Director General.

Mr. Boakye-Baafi, further indicated that the appointing authority would have erre if Dr. Eric Nkasanh had been appointed as the Registrar of the National Teaching Council of Ghana, the professional body mandated to manage the teaching profession.

He explain that the law , Education Regulatory Bodies ACT 2020 ( Act 1023) which established the National Teaching Council(NTC) pointed out clearly that the pesron president shall apoint should be a registered teaching having taught not less than ten years.
