The Vice-President of Ghana and Flagbearer of the governing New Patriotic Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, was on Monday,10th June 2024, mobbed by hundreds of head porters in the Ashanti Region ahead of his meeting with traditional rulers at the Manhyia Palace.

Amid drumming and dancing, the kayayei carried several placards to demonstrate their passionate desire to meet Dr. Bawumia and his entourage.

Some of the placards read: “Bawumia is the only option”, “Zongos are proud of you”, “Alhaji Mahmud Bawumia, we (Kayayei) are grateful for what you have done for us”, etc.

The NPP flagbearer is in the Ashanti Region, the party’s political world bank, as part of his ‘youth connect’ campaign tour of the 16 regions to share his vision and gather views from key stakeholders ahead of the party’s manifesto launch for the December general election.

The Vice-President, after his meeting with nananom, will proceed to meet the clergy before meeting Muslim leaders and professional associations to climax the first day of his three-day campaign tour.
