The Presiding Member (PM) for Ejisu Municipal Assembly and one of the leading contestants in the Ejisu New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primary, Helena Mensah, has been highly tipped to win the contest.

The governing NPP will elect a candidate tomorrow for the 30th April by-election in the Ejisu Constituency of the Ashanti Region.

The by-election has been necessitated by the demise of Dr. John Ampontuah Kumah, the former Member of Parliament (MP) for the constituency, who was also the Deputy Minister of Finance.

Out of the nine (9) candidates cleared by the NPP vetting committee, a cross-section of the party delegates, assembly members, leading members of the party, as well as the electorate of the constituency, have tipped Helena Mensah as the favourite candidate to win the primary and subsequently retain the seat for the NPP.

According to them, Helena Mensah, who is serving her second term as the PM for Ejisu Municipal Assembly, has demonstrated humility, respect for all manner of persons, competence, and also positioned herself as a promoter of peace and unity which the Ejisu NPP needs to retain the seat in honour of the late MP.

In separate interactions with The New Trust newspaper ahead of the primary, the key stakeholders thought Helena Mensah was NPP’s best bet to win the Ejisu seat in the 30th April by-election, especially when the former MP for the area and former Deputy Minister for Roads and Highways, Mr. Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, has given a clear indication of contesting the seat again as an independent candidate this time round.

Other contestants who could also pull a surprise in the race are: Lawyer Kwesi Nyantakyi, former Ghana Football Association (GFA) President; Lawyer Kwabena Boateng, the Constituency Second Vice Chairman; and Dr. Evans Duah, a lawyer.
