The mayor of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Mr Kwesi Ofori Agyeman, who is popularly known as King Zuba, has announced that plans were advanced for the recommencement of the abandoned Krofrom market project.
The Krofrom market reconstruction, which was initiated by former President John Agyekum Kufuor during his second term in office, has suffered major setbacks for almost 2 decades now.
But, speaking exclusively to Kofi Boakye, aka Commander One, the host of “Nkwantannanso” afternoon programme on Opemsuo Radio 104.7 FM, at Manhyia Palace, in Kumasi on Monday, 15th December, 2025, King Zuba, as he is affectionately called in the political space, said, “The Kumasi Central Market Phase II project is still ongoing and is expected to be ready in 2027. The project is about 65% completed.I have promised to start Krofrom abandoned market in 2026.

The abandoned Krofrom market
We’re at the completion of the procurement stage. Restart or continue the Krofrom market with major contractors with the capacity to complete it.
For now I’m looking at delivery from the Krofrom market in December 2026. We have some funds for the project. We have money for mobilisation sitting in our accounts.

I can tell you that,Krofrom market will be delivered in 2026. ‘Even if left with three months before December 2026, I will keep to my word,’ he emphasised.
It would be recalled that the Krofrom Market project was started in 2007 under President Kufuor’s administration as part of the Jubilee projects, aimed to be a major commercial hub, but construction quickly stalled, remaining unfinished for years despite various promises and efforts to revive it by subsequent governments.
According to the Kumasi mayor, who doubles as the former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Obuasi, during President Mahama’s first term in office, “This government has to make a case out of the Krofrom market.
The project is like a battle for me,” added.King Zuba also announced that KMA is going to construct an urban children’s park at Ridge near the Lancaster Hotel at the cost of six million Ghanaian cedi.
According to him, the money for the project has been given to them already. “We would start the procurement process for the project in January 2026. Moreover, Kumasi is going to get a theatre from President John Mahama’s government.”
Stressing that he was very determined to work as a mayor, “I’m here to rate myself. I’m looking up to becoming the Kumasi Asante Kotoko CEO.” I’m using the mayorship work as justification for inclusion for my big dream of becoming a future Kotoko CEO. I am determined to work.”
