The Mayor of Kumasi, Mr. Samuel Pyne, in his remarks, said the inauguration of unit committees, metro and town councils is a crucial step towards realising the Assembly’s vision of making its substructures functional to enhance decentralisation.

Mr. Pyne, therefore, urged the members to discharge their duties diligently, impartially and effectively in order to accelerate the development of the Assembly.

The highlight of the day, which was the election of the chairpersons of the sub-metropolitan councils, was peaceful.

The Manhyia North sub-metro chairperson position went to Mr. Kwaku Sarpong, who won by popular acclamation. Manhyia South sub-metro chairperson James Owusu Boakye won by 10 votes against Linda Koduah who had five votes.

The venues for the programmes were Yaw Baah Community Library, Krofrom, for Manhyia North, and Manhyia South conference room, Ashtown.

On his part, KMA PM, who is also the Assembly member for the Krofrom East Electoral Area, commended all the elected members.

He advised them to serve with dedication and diligence to justify the confidence reposed in them.

“Let’s all unite and work assiduously to ensure accelerated development for Kumasi and Asanteman devoid of acts that have the tendency to thwart development and progress,” he stressed.

Mr. Frimpong gave the advice in an interaction with the media after the ceremony.
