He said the government must adhere to the strict compliance of mining licences.
According to him, the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) and other agencies responsible for the issuance of mining licences are to ensure that these individuals and companies obey the mining laws and regulations. He explained that the fight against galamsey should be seen as a national but not political thing.
He said the guards who are dispatched by the government to fight illegal mining activities are also to discharge their duties of honesty and integrity without criticisms.
Osahene Kwaku Aterkyi was optimistic that if these were adhered to, the fight against galamsey would be attainable.
The paramount chief, who’s a member of the National House of Chiefs, said the fight against galamsey must not be left to the government alone, but everyone’s should support.
“Something seriously must be done to protect our destroying lands and water bodies. This is not the land our forefathers gave us. We must fight and reclaim it back.” He added.
