Lecturer commends Chairman Wontumi for free and fair primaries in orphan constituencies

By:A news Desk Report

A Political Science Lecturer, Dr. Afriyie Bonsu, has commended the Ashanti Regional Chairman for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, for supervising an incident-free and fair parliamentary primaries in orphan constituencies in the Ashanti Region over the weekend.

According to Dr. Bonsu, the Regional Chairman and his executives deserve commendation for staying true to their promise of ensuring a non-interference exercise in all of the three orphan constituencies in the region.

“The electoral fortunes of the ruling NPP will be adequately enhanced if a similar approach is adopted in the primaries for the sitting Members of Parliament (MPs) slated for next year,” he indicated.

The Ashanti NPP, under the leadership of Chairman Wontumi, successfully held primaries at three orphan constituencies, namely Asawase, Sekyere Afram Plains and Ejura Sekyedumase, contrary to fears of violence and intimidation.

As a result of that, Dr. Bonsu has given credit to the regional leadership for a good job done.
He was of the view that considering the crucial nature of next year’s polls, it was necessary for the party to allow a level-playing field for all qualified candidates to participate in the competition without any discrimination, stressing that an open and transparent process would help boost the chances of the ruling party to maintain its seats and even increasing its number next year.

“It is for this reason that I commend Chairman Wontumi for showing leadership; I singled out Wontumi because, as we know, the stakes are always high in the Ashanti Region and everyone would want to do anything possible to win their slots,” he noted.
