The event opened with welcome remarks by Dora Boamah Mawutor, Senior Director and Head of Programmes at MFWA. This was followed by a presentation on the media-security situation in Ghana, highlighting recent data on incidents affecting journalists.

A session on lived experiences featured Nicholas Osei-Wusu of Garden City Radio, Ohemeng Tawiah of LUV FM, Gideon Nana Peprah of GhanaWeb, and Erastus Asare Donkor of Multimedia Group Limited. The discussion, facilitated by Millicent Safo-Adu of the EIB Network, provided firsthand accounts of journalists’ interactions with security agencies in the course of their work.

Representatives of the security agencies also delivered remarks on strengthening cooperation and accountability. Dr Gilbert Tietaah of the Department of Communication Studies, University of Ghana, then delivered a keynote address on the safety of journalists as a foundation for transparent and accountable governance.

Participants later engaged in breakout discussions on pathways forward for enhancing collaboration and countering impunity for attacks against journalists and media personnel. Group spokespersons presented their recommendations during plenary, followed by a Q&A session.
