Mobile Money Fintech LTD is now officially independent from MTN Ghana-Management announces

 

The management of MobileMoney Fintech LTD has officially announced legal separation from the leading telecommunications provider in the country, MTN Ghana, beginning from 31st March 2026.

The separation, according to them, is in line with full compliance with the Bank of Ghana’s Payment System and Services Act, 2029 (Act 987), which requires telecom operators to separate their electronic money services from their traditional telecommunications operations.

The head of MobileMoney Fintech LTD in the Northern business district, Nana Addai, made the announcement at a press briefing in Kumasi on Monday, 27th July, 2026, held at Ridge Condos.

He explained that the move aimed at creating a stronger and more efficient fintech institution capable of delivering innovative digital financial solutions to individuals, businesses, and corporate clients across Ghana.

 

 

 

According to him, operating independently gives them flexibility to innovate faster, scale up their agent networks, and design targeted financial offerings for individuals and SMEs as well as corporate clients.

Nana Addai, therefore, gave assurance that customers should be assured that their funds, transaction history, and security settings remain completely protected. Saying that there is no need for customers to re-register or take any action,” he added.

According to him, the establishment of MMFL presents a major opportunity for the company to move faster in developing customer-focused financial products, strengthening its agent network, and expanding access to digital financial services nationwide.

Besides, the separation is also expected to enhance regulatory supervision and strengthen the protection of customer funds through a clear operational distinction between telecom services and financial technology operations.

The development is a strategic move that positions both the telecom and fintech businesses for sustainable growth.According to the head of the Northern business district, Mobile Money Fintech Ltd is jointly owned by MTN Dutch Holdings and the MTN Ghana Fintech Trust.

“We’re hoping to become a major force in Ghana’s fintech space as it pursues broader financial inclusion and next-generation digital payment solutions.”Customers will continue to use their existing wallets, PINs, transaction channels, and agent networks without any changes.

Adding that the transition reinforces MTN’s commitment to building a secure, innovative, and inclusive digital financial ecosystem that serves the evolving needs of Ghanaians.
