The President of the Council of Zongo Chiefs of Mpasatia in the Atwima Mponua District of Ashanti Region, Chief Abdullai Muhammed, has urged all Ghanaians who are speaking against the recent increment of Paramount Chiefs allowance by the government to stop and rather commend the government for thinking about the welfare of Paramount Chiefs in the country.
According to him, “Chiefs, and for that matter Paramount Chiefs, spend a lot to improve the lives of their people and their communities at their own expenses.”
Chief Abdullai Muhammed explained in this paper that he is personally happy that the government is beginning to see and recognise the efforts by the Paramount Chiefs through this. He said that though the allowance is not huge to sustain the beneficiaries, “half aloof is better than none.”

Chief Abdullai Muhammed said that traditional rulers, especially Paramount ones, are suffering a lot, especially during the organisation of events, taking into consideration transportation and refreshments expenses.
“I’m not speaking for nananom, but I believe that nananom would appreciate this gesture by the government, as this is a sign of great ones underway,” he noted.

He urged all Ghanaians to learn to appreciate a little effort by someone else. Any attempt to speak against it would discourage him from doing more in the future. It would be recalled that the government increased monthly allowances for Paramount Chiefs and the Queen to GH¢3,000.
Besides, six quarters of payments have been made since the start of the Mahama-led administration.
The local government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs Minister, Mr Mahama Ayariga, according to a report by citinewsroom.com, disclosed this at the Government Accountability Series at the Jubilee House on Monday, October 5,2026,
According to him, the increment in allowances formed part of the government’s effort to strengthen the traditional leadership system and improve support for chiefs who work closely with local government authorities.
“Under President Mahama, the payment of monthly allowances to Paramount Chiefs and Queen Mothers increased from GH¢1,200 to GH¢3,000, respectively, with six quarters duly paid since the inception of this government,” he said.
Mr Ayariga said the government was also exploring ways to use local government resources to support traditional councils, arguing that many MMDAs relied heavily on the cooperation of paramount chiefs and traditional councils to implement development programmes effectively.
