MTN FOUNDATION LAUNCHES BRIGHT SCHOLARSHIP RELOADED TO SUPPORT TERTIARY STUDENTS

MTN Ghana Foundation has launched the second edition of the Bright Scholarship Award dubbed,“Bright ScholarshipReloaded”to support needy and brilliant students in public tertiary institutions and vocational training schools.

 

 

MTN Bright Scholarship Reloaded is an enhancement of the MTN Bright Scholarship which was launched in 2018. The scheme aims to assist students with their financial commitments.The scholarships will coverthe cost of tuition, accommodation, stipend and a laptop.  The Foundation will award 100 scholarships each year for three years, ending 2024.

Beneficiaries will be selected from all 16 regions of Ghana with consideration given to students from the six newly created regions (North East, Savannah, Ahafo, Bono East, Western North and Oti). To qualify for the MTN Bright Scholarship, students must be Ghanaian citizensin any of the accredited public tertiaryor Vocational Training Institutions in Ghana. In addition, the candidate must show proof of excellent academic resultswithout any academic disciplinary issues.

 

MTN Ghana Foundation is therefore inviting eligible students to apply for MTN Bright Scholarships Reloaded, with applications being taken from 2nd June to 4th July 2022. Qualified applicants can applythrough–Scholarship.mtn.com.gh.

 

Speaking at the launch, the CEO of MTN Ghana said, “The MTN Bright Scholarship is an initiative that is dear to our hearts at MTN Ghana because it has proven to have the potential to shape the future and destiny of young people in Ghana who are key to our economic prospects. For me, it is humbling to know that the Scholarship scheme has brought hope, relief and peace of mind to many young Ghanaians and their families. Out of the 300 BRIGHT scholars to date, over 119 beneficiaries have graduated.  Out of this number, 82 graduated with first class degrees with 24 receiving special awards including valedictorians “

“Following these successes and the impact of the MTN Bright Scholarship scheme, the MTN Foundation Board decidedas part of MTN’s 25thanniversary celebration, to launch the MTN BRIGHT Scholarship reloaded to award a second batch of 300 Scholarships for another three years (100 per year) ending in 2024 to brilliant and needy students in public institutions,” he added.

 

On his part, the Deputy Minister of Education, Hon.John Ntim Fordjourwho was the special guest of honour, expressed his gratitude to the MTN Ghana Foundation for implementing this initiative to lessen the burden of students. He said “MTN Ghana Foundation, the Government of Ghana salutes and appreciates your exemplary leadership of such initiatives to brighten the lives of Ghanaians. Your consistent efforts in supporting Government’s flagship projects that promotes the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGS) is extremely laudable and we are appreciative of your commitment.”

 

“Government will also on its part, continue to provide the enabling and required frameworks to ensure that our Education System is constantly relevant in preparing our youth for the better Ghana we all envisage”

 

The event was attended by Board members of the MTN Ghana Foundation, Mrs Nabila-Williams, Dr. Gloria Asare, Mr. Samuel Koranteng, Executives and staff of MTN and the Foundation and some scholarship beneficiaries.

 

MTN Bright Scholarship falls under the education focus area of the MTN Foundation, which is one of the three focus areas of the MTN Ghana Foundation. Aside the Bright Scholarship initiative, over the years the Foundation has awarded over 1000 scholarships to students from basic school to tertiary level.Since the launch of the MTN Foundation in 2007, the Foundation has invested in over 87 educational projects across the country. Some of these projects include the construction of a 600 bed dormitory block for Tamale Senior High School, a multipurpose library at Dansoman, a Telecom Laboratory for GIMPA, a 6 unit classroom block for Nhyiaeso Basic school, a 3 unit class room block for Mangoase Basic School, among others.
