The National Association of Local Authorities of Ghana (NALAG) has presented 49,450 exercise books to the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council for onward distribution to all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the region, as part of efforts to promote education in deprived communities.

Presenting the books on 28 July, Hon. Nana Yaw Wiredu, Regional Representative of NALAG, and the Presiding Member of the Asokwa Municipal Assembly, noted that the National Executives of NALAG resolved at its conference to support education in deprived communities nationwide, recognising education as key to efficient local governance. He stated this is a legacy project, and each of the 43 MMDAs is expected to receive 1,150 exercise books.

Hon. Patrick Kwame Frimpong, Presiding Member of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly and First Vice President of NALAG, described the gesture as a transformative initiative expected to continue in subsequent years to achieve lasting impact. He advised the assemblies to ensure the books reach deprived communities within their jurisdictions in order to fulfil the objective of the programme.

Receiving the books on behalf of the Ashanti Regional Minister and the Chief Director of the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council, Assistant Director Mr. Andy Ampofo Ghanson thanked NALAG for the thoughtful initiative.
