Managing Director of Inter City STC,, Nana Akomea, has lauded President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for directing Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta to engage the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for financial support.
A statement issued and signed by Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, said; “The President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has authorized Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta to commence formal engagements with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), inviting the Fund to support an economic program put together by the Government of Ghana…The engagement with the IMF will seek to provide balance of payment support as part of a broader effort to quicken Ghana’s build back in the face of challenges induced by the COVID-19 pandemic and, recently, the Russia-Ukraine crises.”
Speaking to host Kwami Sefa Kayi on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo”, Nana Akomea argued it will take a leader of courage like President Akufo-Addo to bear the barrage of caustic criticisms against him and still stay firm to go to the IMF to rescue the economy.
“When we say you are a good leader, it also means you are flexible . . . So, he has shown great leadership regarding this IMF issue . . . for him to give the direction that we should lay aside everything and go to the IMF is a show of great leadership,” he said.
He urged Ghanaians to applaud the President for his move believing the IMF bailout is one of the best ways to resolving the economic challenges.
“The President deserves every commendation for the show of leadership at this time,” he asserted.
