NEW PARAMOUNT QUEEN ENSKINNED FOR BAWKU & KUSAUG TRADITIONAL COUNCIL

The Overlord of the Kusaug Traditional Area and President of the Kusaug Traditional Council, Zug-Raan Bawku Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II, on Friday, August 1, 2026, enskinned a new Paramount Queen for Bawku in the Upper East Region.

The enskinment follows the passing of the late Paramount Queen of Bawku, Poanaba Alasbuudi I, last year.

The event brought together queen mothers from across the Kusaug Traditional Area, chiefs, traditional leaders, youth groups, and hundreds of residents who witnessed the historic moment at the Zug-Raan Bawku Naba’s Palace in Bawku

He called on her to work closely with traditional authorities and provide guidance and support to women and children toward development and peace in the area.

The Bawku Naba also charged chiefs, queens, and youth groups to embrace peace and unity, to give peace away to return to Bawku for development.

Many businesses, government institutions, and individuals have closed down due to the prolonged conflict in the area.

During the ceremony, the overlord enskinned the new Paramount Queen Mother and gave her the stool name Poanaba Alasbuudi II.
Alasbuudi means “Unifier”.

Reverend Father John Kantoni, who read from scripture at the ceremony, said a queen mother is not just a title.
“A queen mother is someone who preaches peace, unity, fairness, and sound decision-making,” he stated.

The event was marked with joy, drumming, dancing, and rich cultural displays by the youth and traditional groups.

Her leadership is expected to help bring lasting peace back to Bawku through her work with queen mothers in Kusaug and her participation in the regional and national houses of Queen Mothers.
