Nov 4 NPP Presidential Primaries: Don’t allow anyone to divide us – Napo urges NPP delegates

The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Manhyia South Constituency in the Ashanti Region who doubles as the Minister of Energy, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, affectionately called Napo, has called on the delegates of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to reject any of the flagbearer aspirants who campaigns on ethnicity, religious and tribal lines as regards the November 4 polls.

He said the need for all and sundry to guide against any act that has the tendency to create division among the rank and file of the party and the entire country cannot be overemphasised.

“I’m telling you that very soon you’ll hear a lot of ethnicity, tribal and religious politics. Religion and tribal background should never be allowed to divide Ghanaians. Every pastor who says one should not be voted for because of his religion is not a true man of God,” he pointed out.

The Manhyia South MP made the passionate appeal after artisans in his constituency had honoured him and he had commissioned an ultramodern Manhyia South NPP office at Ashtown last Friday.

Dr Prempeh reminded them to be careful not to elect anyone who would bring division among Ghanaians. “We don’t want conflict in Ghana; we want peace. Look at where I will vote and follow me and reject anyone who’ll create confusion in the party and in the country,” he said.

The Energy Minister said any of the four aspirants who is elected as flagbearer would perform better than former President John Mahama.

Dr.Napo

“I will never insult anyone and I don’t expect you to insult any aspirant. We’ll need everyone on board to enable us to break the 8, and politics of insults should be rejected at all levels of our politics,” he emphasised.

Besides, he took the opportunity to downplay the various propaganda being done by critics of the government.

Napo said after taking over power, the Akufo-Addo administration had implemented several pro-poor policies including the Free Senior High School programme, restoration of nurses and teacher trainees allowance, among others, to transform the lives of Ghanaians from the hardship they were going through under the previous administration.

He said a lot of investment had been done in the area of health. “As we speak now, Ghana has exceeded UN projection of one nurse is to 400 patients. Ghana has been able to exceed that and currently one nurse is to 300 patients,” he added.

He said Ghanaians should not forget what they went through under the previous administration such as dumsor and economic hardships.

According to him, despite the COVID-19 pandemic among other challenges, the Akufo-Addo administration had been able to implement policies and programmes to lessen the burdens of Ghanaians.

“The light has been on in spite of recent power outages as a result of inadequate gas supply. Yes, l admit that there are still challenges which we need to do more but l’d like to caution Ghanaians not to allow themselves to be deceived by the opposition NDC to vote them back to destroy what has been achieved,” he stressed.

He said the more he stayed as MP, the more he would continue to do more for the people of Manhyia South and Ghana as a whole.
