The former head of Monitoring & Evaluation at the Ministry of Roads under former President John Agyekum Kufour’s era who doubles as former Member of Parliament(MP) for Asante Mampong,Hon.Francis Addai-Nimoh has made a strong case for Ashanti regional capital, Kumasi to be given major and urgent facelift to reduce vehicular and human congestion.
He has therefore appealed to Nana Akufo-Addo led government to speed up plans to construct Suame,Oforikrom,Santasi among other interchanges promised in the party’s 2016 manifesto. In an exclusive interview with Omanhene Yaw Adu Boakye,the host of Sompa TV/Radio (93.1 fm) in Kumasi,Hon.Addai-Nimoh who has declared his intention to contest for NPP 2024 flagbearership race said he fully backs the calls by the residents of greater Kumasi on the government to implement more projects in the region,especially the regional capital.
According to him,apart from major facelift Kumasi had in 1990s there has not been major facelift and some of them have been advocating for that since NPP won back power in 2016.
He said the geographical location of Kumasi and its status as the second largest capital of the country among other factors support his call.Hon.Addai-Nimoh also stressed on the need for the government to implement abandoned Boankra Inland Port project which was re-launched by President Akufo-Addo on November, 5,2020.
He was quick to explained that the immediate priority of the project should be the construction of Rail line from Tema to Boankra before any other projects on the land.
On the government’s decision to seek bailout from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), NPP flagbearer hopeful who was among the leading members of the Party to boldly advised Nana Addo to seek IMF bailout,said the decision was necessary because there was no alternative for the government at the current circumstances.
He said anyone who says there is any economic theory for Ghana at the prevailing situation or circumstances is not telling the truth.
He admitted that the only way forward for Ghanaians to get some relief from the current economic hardship was the decision taken by the government.
Despite the challenges associated with such interventions,Hon.Addai-Nimoh begs Ghanaians to exercise restrained and support the President and his government to enable stabilize the economy.
He also reiterated his call on President Akufo-Addo to personally come out and address the nation on his decision to seek IMF support so as to whip up support of Majority of the populace.
