Hon. Donkor presented Ghana’s comprehensive climate and development agenda under the theme “Climate Protection and Progress: Ghana’s Integrated Approach.” His presentation highlighted Ghana’s pioneering efforts in turning climate challenges into opportunities through innovative, people-centered solutions.
He emphasized that Ghana’s climate action is inseparable from its development priorities, noting how initiatives in agriculture, waste management, renewable energy, and mobility are designed to achieve a dual impact, protecting the environment while driving economic growth and creating jobs.
Ghana’s ambitious target of reducing 64 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions by 2030, backed by strategic international partnerships with countries such as Switzerland, Sweden, Singapore, and South Korea, was also spotlighted.
Key examples shared included:
- The Carbon Market Office ensures transparency and inclusivity in Ghana’s carbon market activities.
-
Clean Cooking Initiatives are reducing deforestation and improving health outcomes for women and children.
-
Integrated Recycling & Composting Plants (IRECOPs) cut methane emissions while creating sustainable jobs.
-
Climate-Smart Agriculture Projects, such as alternative wetting and drying in rice farming, which boost productivity while reducing emissions.
Speaking at the conference, Hon. Donkor reiterated Ghana’s belief that every climate action must also advance development goals, describing this as “smart economics that places communities at the heart of climate solutions.”
The participation of the NSA’s Deputy Director-General at this global platform underscores Ghana’s leadership role in climate diplomacy and the Authority’s commitment to sustainable national development.
As the world deliberates on urgent climate challenges, Ghana, through the NSA’s active engagement, is demonstrating that climate action and economic prosperity can go hand in hand, creating a sustainable future that works for all.
