NSS moves to tackle accommodation challenges of service personnel – Executive Director reveals

The final-year students of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) have undergone a one-day pre-service orientation programme organised by the National Service Secretariat (NSS).

The Great Hall of KNUST was filled to capacity by the prospective personnel on Thursday, 30th May 2024.

They were engaged by the Executive Director of NSS, Mr. Osei Assibey Antwi; a member of NSS Board, who is also a Provost of KNUST, Prof. Christian
Agyare; Mr. Prince Kankam Boadu, the Ashanti Regional Director; Mr. Kofi Adu, the Head of Examinations at KNUST, including other high-profile personalities.

In response to a question on accomodation challenges confronting service personnel, the Ashanti Regional Director of the National Service Secretariat (NSS), Mr. Prince Kankam Boadu, said the secretariat is aware of the accommodation challenges across the country but with the help of its district and regional directors, it will be easy for service personnel to access affordable accommodation.

The Executive Director of NSS, Mr. Osei Assibey Antwi, revealed that he was working on the first 2,000 hostels for service personnel.

According to him, the Board of NSS has already approved of it and the rest of the process is ongoing.

Aside from that, he said he was in contact with Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) to liaise with chiefs and other stakeholders to support service personnel to address the accommodation challenges some of them go through.
