I have followed with deep concern the comments made by the Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, after his visit to the Agenda 111 Hospital project at Kokoben in the Oforikrom Municipality.

Let me state without ambiguity: the posture adopted by the Minister is disappointing and unacceptable.

I was personally present when H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo commissioned the facility on 5th December 2024. The core infrastructure was completed to a very significant level, and what remained was the natural transition into full operationalization—something any committed government should prioritize without delay.

The attempt to paint the facility as “non-existent” or “non-functional” in a manner that disregards the substantial work already done under the NPP government is not only misleading but also does not serve the interest of the good people of Oforikrom.

The critical question is this:
What is the current government doing to operationalize the facility?

Governance is about continuity—not excuses.

If there are minor gaps in equipment or installations, it is the responsibility of the current administration, led by H.E. John Dramani Mahama, and the Ministry of Health to fix them immediately. Ghanaians did not vote for complaints; they voted for solutions.

Oforikrom is not just any municipality. With the presence of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and a rapidly growing population of over 500,000 people, including students, children, and vulnerable groups, access to quality healthcare is not negotiable—it is urgent.

Thousands of trained health professionals are currently at home without employment. This hospital, if operationalized, can:
• Save lives
• Reduce pressure on existing health facilities
• Create jobs for nurses, doctors, and allied health workers

The people of Oforikrom are watching. Ghanaians are watching.

This facility is not about political credit. It is about human lives. However, it must also be clearly stated that the NPP government laid a solid foundation through Agenda 111, and that effort must be respected and continued—not downplayed.

I therefore call on the Minister for Health to stop the rhetoric, focus on action, and as a matter of urgency, ensure that the Kokoben Agenda 111 Hospital is fully equipped and operational.

No more excuses. The people deserve better.
