As part of its commitment to clamp down indiscipline on roads and unauthorised use of strobe lights, lamps,sirens, and horns under the road traffic regulations 2026 of the legislative instrument 2519,One thousand nine hundred and ninety-one (199) vehicles have been intercepted.
Out of the number, 97 were found to be using unauthorised sirens and 1,830 vehicles, abuse of use unauthorised strobe lights .
Chief Supt.Evans Kwame Boadi,Ashanti Regional MTTD commander ,revealed these on Wednesday, 26th August, 2026 at press briefing on use of strobe lights, the illegal use of sirens, and the relevant provisions of the law.
Intercepted strobe lights, lamps and sirens
According to him, the use of sirens and horns on motor vehicles is regulated under the R9ad Traffic Regulations 99 of 2026 (L.I.2519).
Supt.Boadi,therefore, advised drivers and motorists to comply strictly with the provisions of the Road Traffic Regulations, 2026 (L.I.2519) concerning the use of horns, sirens, lamps and strobe lights.
Saying that unauthorised installation or use of horns, sirens, lamps, and strobe lights will attract enforcement action.

According to him, road safety is a shared responsibility. Compliance with the law,discipline, and consideration for other users is essential to reducing road crashes and creating safer roads in Ghana.
The Ashanti MTTD commander explained that the use of strobe light or lamps, sirens, and horns on motor vehicles is regulated under the Road Traffic Regulations 90 and 992026 (L.I. 2519) respectively.
According to him, the regulations remain an important legal framework for road traffic enforcement in Ghana, and the Ghana Police Service, through the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), continues to enforce these provisions.
Supt.Boadi disclosed that on 3rd July,2026,the Kumasi Central MTTD Task Force under the Supervision of himself, the Greater Accra MTTD Commander Dcop/Mr. Alexander Wowolo, Acp Alexander Kwaku Obeng in charge Research, Planning, Education and Training at the National Headquarters, Dsp/Mr. Oppong Kyekyeku, National MTTD Staff Officer and C/Inspectors, Inspectors, Nco’s and Men from PAD/HQ, Accra and Kumasi, commenced with the Re-Enforcement Exercises from the above-mentioned Operation at Airport Roundabout, Santasi Roundabout, Ahodwo Roundabout, Abrepo Junction, Abuakwa road, Kwadaso, Tanoso, Apire, Aboabo Kese, Nfansi, Akropong, Afari, Agric Nzema and more within Kumasi Metropolis Respectively.
He said in all one thousand nine hundred and ninety-one (1991) vehicles were intercepted, ninety-seven (97) for unauthorized use of siren and One thousand eight hundred and thirty (1830) abuse of strobe lights.

He explained further that despite sub regulation (1), a siren or bell may be fitted as a warning appliance and used on the following classes of motor vehicles:
(a) a government vehicle used for official purposes by the Head of State;
(b) a Police vehicle;
(c) a motor vehicle used by the Fire Service;
(d) a motor vehicle used as an ambulance by a hospital or a clinic;
(e) a motor vehicle used by other recognized government security agencies; and
f a bullion vehicle registered by the Licensing Authority.
The Ashanti MTTD commander poined that a person, who contravenes this regulation commits an offence and is liable on summary conviction to a fine of not more than twenty-five penalty units or to a term of imprisonment of not more than thirty days or to both.
