The Ashanti Regional Organiser for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who is an educationist by profession, Dr. Francis Adomako, has made a passionate appeal to school heads and administrators, the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Ministry of Education to conduct a thorough search on all students at all levels, that is, from primary school to the tertiary level.

According to him, guns or pistols on students on campuses are becoming too many.

He recalled that the first one happened at Adventist Senior High School and now at Osei Kyeretwie Senior High School (OKESS) both in Kumasi.

Dr. Adomako, who is popularly known as Francois, made the appeal in an interview with “The New Trust” newspaper on Monday, 19th May 2025.

His appeal follows the arrest of a 16-year-old boy from OKESS by the Ashanti Regional Police Command for possessing a locally made pistol.

Francois, who is also the Dean of all Regional Organisers, expressed fear that “I don’t know the school which this will occur next. Unannounced searches must be conducted on all schools, especially from primary to secondary schools.”

“Schools must search students in their dormitories and classrooms,” he stressed.

The Ashanti Regional NPP Organiser said parents should also search their children well before they drop them off at school.

He added that hall tutors and hall masters should start conducting unannounced searches to prevent such things from occurring in the halls.

Owners of various hostels should be proactive as well, so as to prevent these things from occurring in hostels.

Francois suggested that students should be motivated to be whistle blowers to report those who are hiding unauthorised weapons on them on various campuses at all levels.

Besides, disciplinary actions must be enforced in various schools.
