Two hundred and fifty (250) students received their awards at the Northern Business sector, after a similar event was recently held in Accra to award 250 students and teachers.

The uniqueness of this year’s MTN Bright Scholarship awards is that it has increased the number of awardees from 200 last year to 300 students.

Besides, for the first time since the scheme started in 2018, 200 STEM teachers have been included in the awards.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTN Ghana, Mr Stephen Blewett,
in a speech delivered on his behalf by Dr Isaac Mate, General Manager, Sustainability and Shared Value of MTN, announced that the company had targeted to award additional 1,500 students and 600 STEM teachers in the next three years.

Mr Blewett said, “Today is not just about awarding scholarships, it’s about investing in dreams, your dreams, unlocking potential and securing the future of Ghana.”

“Education unlocks opportunities and powers innovation. Without it, we don’t get innovation,” he added.

The MTN Ghana CEO said the feedback and impact on the awards from the various universities had been very impressive.

According to Mr.
Blewett, ten (10) beneficiaries have graduated as valedictorians, best students, 20 have obtained first-class honours and 94 have graduated with second-class upper division.

“With investment in education, we can transform not only individual lives but also entire communities,” he pointed out.

He revealed that the 500 scholarships for the 2025/26 academic year is made up of 300 students pursuing first degrees in STEM, vocational and technical training, and 200 teachers upgrading their skills.

He also revealed that this year, they received 3,691 applications and 1,200 were shortlisted 1,200 for interviews and subsequently 500 individuals were selected for awards.
