Tension mounts at Armed Forces SHTS as teachers demand removal of headmaster after assault
Tensions are rising at the Armed Forces Senior High Technical School in Kumasi after teachers accused the school’s headmaster, Colonel Godwin Agbekey, of orchestrating a campaign of intimidation and using military personnel to harass staff members.
The latest incident came with the alleged assaultt of a female teacher, Madam Rita, by two armed military police officers on campus.

According to teachers, the officers were acting on the orders of Col. Agbekey, who they claim is seeking reinstatement despite being under investigation for corruption and misconduct.
“This brazen act, which took place in full view of colleagues and management, is unwarranted, dehumanising, and criminal,” the teachers said in a joint statement signed by members of the major teacher unions—NAGRAT, GNAT, CCT, and TEWU.

The statement alleged that Col. Agbekey, though removed from office, continues to “wield the Military Police as instruments of harassment” against teachers who challenge his authority. The teachers say accommodation on campus has been “weaponised,” with threats of eviction being used to silence dissenting voices.
“Resident teachers suffer severe intimidation and threats of eviction, often within 48 hours to seven days,” the statement said. “These acts have created fear, insecurity, and mistrust, eroding professionalism within the school.”
The staff have since declared the headmaster persona non grata, calling for his immediate removal and demanding a public response from the Chief of Defence Staff and the Ghana Education Service within 48 hours.
The teachers have warned that any further acts of harassment “will be met with lawful resistance.”
Their statement concluded, “We reaffirm our commitment to professionalism, peace, and quality education, but we will not compromise our safety, dignity, or integrity.”Source: Abigail Teye
