Teshie Traditional Council pledges support for education development at Ledzokuku

 

The Paramount Chief of Teshie, Gbetsoolo Nii Ashitey Akomfra III, has pledged the support of the traditional council towards improving education development in the Ledzokuku Municipality.

He stated that the council was poised and ready to liaise with the Ghana Education Service (GES) and other stakeholders to ensure discipline in schools and improve the development of education in the area.

The visit was to brief the council on the state of education within the Ledzokuku Municipality, bringing to their attention challenges confronting the directorate and how they could collaborate to promote education for the good of the people.

The education director and her entourage presented a ten-point report to the traditional council, highlighting major challenges affecting teaching and learning in all government pre-tertiary schools in the area.

Notable among the issues presented to the traditional council were the stealing of educational materials in schools: Books, furniture, electrical wiring, etc., by some residents. For example, the recent theft of two air conditioners at the Ledzokuku Municipal Education Directorate.
Playing of football on school fields during instructional hours, Dumping of refuse within school compounds, Lack of electricity in most schools, Smoking and gambling around the school compound, Threat to teachers for disciplining school children
The rest are Lack of fence walls around schools leading to intrusion by community members, Activities of fish mongers affecting effective teaching and learning (smoke entering the classrooms, Lack of security in most schools, as well as Parents not prepared to provide basic needs for learners before they come to school.

The Paramount Chief, after receiving the reports, promised to have a critical look at them with his leaders and put in place a prudent response expected towards resolving those challenges.
He assured them of their readiness to do all within their powers towards enhancing education development in the area and threatened to deal drastically with people obstructing effective teaching and learning in schools in the area.
The Ledzokuku Municipal Director of Education, Mrs Theresa Tetteh, appealed to the traditional council to collaborate with the Education Directorate to restore discipline in schools.
She lamented over the number of attacks on teachers by some residents for disciplining their children or relations at school.
Mrs Tetteh also appealed to parents to have a keen interest in their children’s education by providing them with their basic needs so they could concentrate on their studies.
