The Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North, Ohene Kwame Frimpong, remains in custody in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, after two attempts by his legal team and parliamentary colleagues to secure his release on bail were unsuccessful.
Majority Chief Whip Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor disclosed that efforts to secure the lawmaker’s release had failed at both the initial application and appeal stages.
The development means the Asante Akyem North MP will remain in Dutch custody ahead of an extradition hearing scheduled for November 18, when a court in the Netherlands is expected to consider the request for his extradition to the United States.

Speaking at a Leaders’ Media Briefing on Tuesday, November 3, Dafeamekpor clarified that contrary to reports suggesting that the Asante Akyem North MP had already been extradited, he was still being held by Dutch authorities in Amsterdam.

O.K Frimpong
“Regarding our colleague O.K Frimpong, the update is that we have failed to secure bail for him in respect of the two applications that were brought before the courts or the tribunals, so to speak and so he is still in Amsterdam, in custody. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the extradition hearing will begin on November 18, 2026.”

He further appealed for prayers and support for the detained legislator, expressing hope that the ongoing legal proceedings would allow him to return to Ghana and resume his parliamentary responsibilities.
“We are still before the court in Holland and so remember us in prayers so that he can return and continue with his work and he has not been taken to the US as it has been alleged.”
O.K Frimpong was arrested on May 10, 2026, at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport after arriving from Ghana aboard a KLM flight.
According to earlier disclosures by Dafeamekpor, the MP was travelling on a private trip to the United Kingdom, where members of his family reside, and was arrested while transiting through the Netherlands.Source:Kabah Atawoge
