The United Hairdressers Association of Ghana (UHAG), has held a successful annual Hair festival 2022 in Kumasi with a call on members to desist from all acts that have potency to drag the image of the association and their profession into disrepute.
They also guard against all acts that have tendency to scare away their customers and potential customers in all their endeavours.Mrs.Mary Berche,the National President of United Hairdressers Association of Ghana gave the advised in an interview with The New Trust Newspaper during this year’s festival held at Katanga Hall,Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology(KNUST) from Tuesday,11th to Friday,14th October,2022 dubbed “UNITED HAIR FESTIVAL 2022”.She cautioned the members not to bring their home or family issues or customers issues into their shops for discussion since that will go against their ethics and discourage customers and potential customers from them.

Mrs.Berche said the annual hair festival is always used to empower their members with leadership and new skills to improve upon their profession and train new ones to acquire new skills.”As Christmas and New Year festivities approach, we brought together experts from the various sectors to train our members to meet the expectations of their customers and potential customers in the current era.

According to her, the Association’s doors are also opened to train young ladies and young men who are interested in the hairdressing profession and encourage them not sit idle but come to them for training. Adding that their members have so far employed number of unemployed ladies and trained them to be masters on their own.

“The festival is also used to share ideas and experience to help each other especially the weak ones among them. When we started mobilizing the members about Ten(10) years now most of them were had skills in doing only hairdressing but with the training they have added or introduced new skills such as make-ups, acrylic among other skills”. She revealed that so far more than Five (500) women have been trained and empowered with new skills to help improve and expand their business.
Miss.Rebecca Darko,Founder & Chief Executive Officer(CEO) of Make-up Ghana in her speech, advised the members of the association not to limit themselves in what they are currently doing but to endeavour to exploit new ways to expand their businesses.

She challenged them to embark on research to abreast them of the new trends in the profession. Miss.Darko reminded them that their role in the economic development and fight against youth unemployment cannot be overemphasized hence they should do whatever possible to protect their profession and businesses. Other speakers during the opening ceremony of the festival include:Alhaji Saeed Bawah Moomen(ASSI National President),Miss.Comfort Acquah-Ecobank Ghana,Kumasi,representatives from Enterprise Insurance,NVTI,Ghana Enterprise Agency(GEA),Nana Antwi Agyei II among others.
