A leading member of the National Democratic Congress ( NDC ), who is also a member of ” Stop the 8 , a group within the party(NDC) which aimed is to campaign vigorously against NPP from retaining power, Mr Abdul Fatawu Yahaya, has urged the Electoral Commission to convene a meeting with the international organizations to ensure transparent audit process.

He said these international organizations, like ECOWAS, AU, UN among others should fully participate in an independent forensic audit to address concerns over unauthorized voter transfers, missing information and corrupted data in the provisional voters’ register.

Mr Abdul Fatawu Yahaya,

The former Abirem Electoral Area Assembly Member in Ashanti region, noted that this will guarantee the credibility of the electoral process to ensure free and fair general election.

Mr.Abdul Fatawu Yahaya’s call follows the discovery of over 243,000 alleged unauthorized voter transfers in the recent exhibition exercise by the Electoral Commission(EC).

He said the recent demonstration by the NDC and other civil organizations to compel the EC to audit the voters register, is a step in a right direction.

According to him, the EC’s failure to audit the voters’ register would not only be a threat to Ghana’s democracy, but also likely to spark violence before, during and after this year’s general election.

He appealed to
chiefs, and other civil organizations to call the EC to do what is necessary before things get out of hands.

Mr. Abdul Fatawu Yahaya, was very sad that, NPP has now becomes the mouthpiece of the EC.
” What will the NPP and EC loose if the voters register is audited. If nothing secret is hidden in the register, why are they afraid to audit it ?”. He asked
