The New Patriotic Party (NPP) continues to reflect on the lessons from the 2024 general election, and one of the most pressing concerns remains the internal utterances that were weaponized by our opponents. It is widely acknowledged that the party lost over two million votes, in part due to statements made by some presidential aspirants in the party.
These remarks, repeatedly played on various television stations by the National Democratic Congress (NDC), created disaffection among sections of our base and the general public. In politics, perception is powerful, and unfortunately, these statements gave our opponents an easy campaign narrative to exploit.
It is important to note that the campaign season has not yet officially commenced, and the party has issued clear directives to that effect. All members, especially those in leadership and with significant public influence, must comply with these guidelines.
The strength of the NPP lies in our unity and discipline, and any deviation from agreed party communication protocols can be detrimental to our collective cause. Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, as a senior member of our party, must lead by example and exercise restraint in his public commentary.
As we move forward, we must be measured and strategic in our public engagements.
Every word spoken by a prominent figure in our party should be scrutinized, and in an election year, even the smallest misstep can be magnified. We must not give the NDC or any opposing force the ammunition to turn our internal discourse into campaign propaganda. Unity of message is key, and so is the commitment to put the party’s interest above individual sentiments or ambitions.
Winning back power in 2028 will require a united front. This is not the task of a few individuals but a shared responsibility for every member of the NPP. We must begin laying the groundwork now by fostering harmony, discipline, and loyalty to the party’s vision.
Let us remember that our words and actions today will either strengthen our chances tomorrow or weaken the very foundation we are trying to rebuild. The time to unite and focus is now.
