Sekyere Kumawu residents petition District Assembly over their bad road
Some aggrieved residents of Sekyere Kumawu District in the Ashanti Region on Tuesday besieged the premises of the District Assembly to protest bad roads.

The residents say a rise in robbery incidents in the area can be attributed to the nature of the main Juaben to Kumawu road.

The residents had red bands tied to their hands and heads and said they were also worried about the transportation of produce from farming communities to urban centres after harvest.

One resident, Stephen Acheampong, read out the petition on behalf of the group and presented it to the District Chief Executive.

“This passionate petition has become necessary. Our road from Kumawu through Effiduase to Juaben is in a highly deplorable state. The contractor who started work in some parts has abandoned the site. We can no longer continue to deal with the poor state of the road.”

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Kumawu received the petition on behalf of the Regional Minister.

“We know how important this is to you, and I can assure you all that I am on your side and will throw my weight behind you to see that the roads are fixed.”source:choicenewsonline.com

Flashback! “DEATH-TRAP EFFIDUASE-OYOKO TO KUMAWU WORASO ROAD NEEDS SERIOUS ATTENTION- motorists, Residents beg Nana Addo”

The Oyoko to Kumawu -Woraso road in the Ashanti Region of Ghana forms a critical part of the regional road.
The road which connects the major towns such as Woraso, Kumawu,Wonoo,Dadease,Oyoko ,Effiduase ,Juaben and their surrounding communities along the corridors to Ejisu were all in bad state until recently that rehabilitation work was carried out on the Ejisu-Juabeng to Effiduase road leaving that of Effiduase Oyoko,Dadease,Wonoo, Kumawu to Woraso in its dilapidated state.
The road traverses through the Ejisu Municipality, Juaben Municipality and Sekyere Kumawu District of the Ashanti Region.

The road since its last major rehabilitation, has performed functionality and structurally well in the transportation of people, goods, services in a reliable and safe manner to facilitate socio-economic growth in the area.

Presently, the Effiduase, Oyoko,Dadease ,Wonoo, Kumawu to Woraso road is highly distressed characterized by severe ravelling ,loss of skid resistance, potholes, roadside drainage problems and high international roughness index.
The bad nature Of Effiduase-Kumawu-Woraso road serves as a danger to it users.
Residents lament, the nature of the road has exposed them to armed robbers and other unpalatable circumstances.
There is therefore the urgent need to rehabilitate the Effiduase-Kumawu-Woraso road to improve on the service levels and boost socio-economic activities in the area.
We are made to understand that an estimated cost of works on the Ejisu-Juabeng to Sekyere Kumawu-Woraso road is Two Hundred and Fifty-Six Million,Seven Hundred and Thirty Thousand,Six Hundred and Eight-Seven Ghana cedis sixty -one Pesewas (256,730,687.61).

Residents told this reporter that ,they don’t see the reasons why rehabilitation work has been carried out on the Ejisu-Juabeng to Effiduase road leaving that of Oyoko, Dadease Wonoo Kumawu to Woraso stretch.
Indicating ,the said stretch of road is captured in one budget.

Whilst the President of the Republic cuts sod for the construction of Kumawu Town roads in 2019, the roads Minister made a statement at the gathering that the 43km stretch from Ejisu – Effiduase to Kumawu – Woraso Highways would be constructed. Ejisu to Juaben has seen a face-lift but Effiduase to Kumawu – Woraso Road is in serious distress that needs attention.

They are officially appealing to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo to come to their side.
