The battle lines have been drawn for nine parliamentary hopefuls on the ticket of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of the party’s primary for the Ejisu Constituency slated for Saturday, 13th April 2024, preceding a yet-to-be announced by-election by the Electoral Commission (EC).

All the nine parliamentary aspirants who managed to pick nomination forms also managed to meet the deadline for the submission of nomination papers on Thursday, 4th April 2024, to pave the way for vetting on Saturday, 6th April 2024.

The list of the nine Ejisu NPP parliamentary candidates are: Dr. Evans Duah, Lecturer at Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED); Lawyer Kwesi Nyantakyi, former President of the Ghana Football Association; Lawyer Kwabena Boateng, former NPP Second Vice Chairman for Ejisu; and Lawyer Portia Acheampong Abronye, the wife of Bono Regional Chairman of NPP.

The rest are: Abena Pokua Amoah, the Ashanti Regional NPP Women’s Campaign Manager; Helena Mensah, the incumbent Presiding Member (PM) for Ejisu Municipal Assembly; Mr Klinsman Karikari Mensah, the former Assembly Member for Onwe; Maame Yaa Aboagye, Downstream Consultant, Petroleum industry; and Aaron Prince Duah, former Assembly Member for Essienimpong Electoral Area.

The Ejisu Constituency seat became vacant after the demise of the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP), Dr. John Ampontuah Kumah. Dr. Kumah died at the age of 45 after a short illness.

Whoever emerges as winner on the side of the NPP after April 13 is likely to face competition from three-time Ejisu MP, Kwabena Owusu Aduomi. A deep throat source has indicated his comeback, albeit not on the ticket of the ruling party.

The former Roads Minister took over from Akwasi Osei-Adjei (former Foreign Affairs Minister) in the run-up to the 2008 elections after the latter lost the parliamentary primary.

The NPP has held the Ejisu seat since 1996.
