Dunkwahene Nana Obeng Nuako III has called on the government through the Ministry of Roads and Highways to fix the deplorable nature of Dunkwa-on-Offin bridge.

He said the metals of the bridge had become rusty while some had been stolen, thereby posing danger to drivers and commuters in the area.

In an interview with this paper, Nana Obeng Nuako said the bridge had developed potholes, for which reason drivers had to drive with care in order not to fall into the river.

He stressed that the bridge must receive the needed attention before a disaster befalls users of the bridge.

According to him, the bridge serves as the main link for those who have to travel from Kumasi direction to Dunkwa through Takoradi area.

In spite of the issue at stake, he commended the government for giving Dunkwa its fair share of the national cake, adding that still more needed to be done.

He highlighted the road that had been constructed from Dunkwa to Abesewa compound and the grading of some portions within the Dunkwa town.

He said the main lorry station was also receiving facelift. According to him, one of his major problems is the abandoned ‘Astroturf park’ which they used to call Obeng Nuako stadium.

He, therefore, appealed to the government to release money to the contractor to enable him to return to the site to resume work.

“We know Nana Akufo-Addo is a listening President and we want to beg him that this ‘Astroturf park’ is so dear to our hearts,” he emphasised.

Nana Obeng Nuako further mentioned of a bridge that is situated between the Dunkwa Government Hospital and a police station.

He said all the covers on the river had been destroyed, making it overflow its banks whenever it rained.

The chief seized the opportunity to advise the youth to be cautious and desist from allowing themselves to be used by politicians to foment troubles before, during and after elections.

He said election is not about fighting but rather who can implement policies and measures for accelerated growth and development.
