GHANA IS SLOWLY BECOMING THE REPUBLIC OF PUNCHES, MACHETES, GUNS AND SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST-Osei Kofi Acquah writes

Osei Kofi Acquah the National Communications Director of the CPP writes…

When in 1992 Ghana decided to embark on the path of Democracy, we the people in our right frame of mind mind had resolved that violence and ”Machoism”was not the way to go.

In the face of this resolution, we developed Rules, Laws and Regulations which has become our National constitution.

Osei Kofi Acquah

The Constitution has created institutions like the Ghana police service to maintain law and order, the Ghana Armed Forces, the Ghana Air forces, the Ghana Navy among others to Defend Ghana and Ghanaians against both Internal and External Aggressors.

The Judicial services were given a Democratic cloaks as they transformed from the populist and Public Spectacled Tribunals to well structured and formal courts to adjudicate matters of law.

Unfortunately 33 years later, what we feared and discarded 33 years ago is rearing its ugly face again.

Today when Ghanaians are electing their members of parliament, who are supposed to be law makers, the winner must have the support of Thugs and Vigilante groups who must exhibit thuggery, intimidation and violence.

Today the election of the President of Ghana who is supposed to protect and defend the constitution of Ghana must creates parallel-Military, Rogues and vigilante groups who they decoy as Party Security who will stop at nothing including disregarding the constitution of the Republic until their candidate wins.

This ugly, unfortunate, dangerous and unacceptable practice which has intensified since 2008 has fester and grown over the years.

Today the election of Council Of State members who are supposed to Advice the president has been marred by series of violence in some parts of the country because some Thugs and Macho-men who thinks they possess Machetes, guns and other assaultive weapons must decide instead of the people’s power.

This shameful, disgraceful and undemocratic caricature which is rearing its head must be stopped with all the might in us.
