Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu writes…

Hon. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, MP for Suame and Majority Leader of Parliament of Ghana writes:

The past few weeks have been extraordinarily rewarding.
The 3rd and last meeting of the 2nd session of the 8th parliament of the 4th Republic has been hectic. And more so for me because my activities have straddled parliamentary, constituency and Sompahene duties.

I joined the Sompahemaa Foundation during its biggest annual medical care outreach yet, at the Nsawam Medium Security Prisons. This formed part of activities lined up to commemorate the 5th anniversary of the installation of my wife and I as Sompahene and Somaphemaa of the Suame Municipality by His Royal Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene. Three thousand four hundred inmates and Officers were screened at the three-day event from Friday 18th November to Sunday 20th November 2022 for Blood Pressure (BP), Body Mass Index (BMI), Blood Sugar Levels, Eye screening, Dental Screening, Mental Health check, HIV/AIDS test, Hepatitis B test, Prostate Cancer test, Skincare check, Breast cancer screening, malaria test, amongst others. All of these resonate with the Foundation’s vision of prioritizing the total well-being of all and was undertaken by 150 strong medical and non-medical volunteers.

I also had the rare opportunity to interact with the inmates whiles serving them packs of hot meals and some gift items.
It was insightful touring both the male and female prisons in the company of the local management and the DG of Prison Service Mr. I K Egyir, Hon Frank Annor Dompreh, the MP for Nsawam and many other dignitaries.

I hosted a grand durbar under the auspices of the Sompahemaa Foundation to celebrate with the Chiefs and people of the Suame Municipality for our 5th anniversary. The colourful durbar had Nana Nkansah Boadu Ayeboafo, Chief of Agric Nzema as the Guest of Honour, Nana K Gyasi and Kaakyire Badu as the Chair and Vice Chair respectively. In attendance were Nana Bremanghene and Nana Nkwantak3sehene, the MCE of the Suame Municipal Assembly and many others from far and near. The event was to take stock of the developmental projects I had undertaken in my stewardship as Sompahene and MP. The founder and president of the Sompahemaa Foundation l also informed the gathering how far the foundation had come and outlined the way forward.
Awards were given to deserving members of the community and sponsors of the activities of the foundation.

I thanked the people of Suame Constituency for the opportunity to serve which has transcended our national borders.

On Saturday the 3rd of December, the last medical screening was held at the Bremang in the Suame Constituency, Kumasi. In all, about 2000 adults and children were screened, diagnosed , counselled and treated for various lifestyle diseases and medical conditions.

I am grateful for the words of wisdom and affirmation from all the chiefs who were present.
