In a move aimed at reorganizing the local government structure, President John Mahama has revoked the appointments of Chief Executives of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies, as well as Assembly Members.
According to a statement from the Office of the President, the revocation takes effect immediately. In the interim, Coordinating Directors of the various MMDAS have been directed to assume responsibility as acting Chief Executives until substantive appointments are made.
The President’s decision is pursuant to the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936) and its amendment, the Local Governance (Amendment) Act, 2017 (Act 940).
