The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has taken another step towards strengthening effective and accountable local governance with a two-day “Next Generation Leadership Training” for Assembly Members.

Held from August 10–11, 2026, at the Royal Lamerta Hotel, the programme equipped Assembly Members with practical knowledge on by-laws, leadership, decentralisation laws, corporate governance, and other key areas of local governance.

The training was organised by the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, NALAG and the Institute of Local Government Studies (ILGS), with support from KMA.

Speaking at the opening, NALAG President, Hon. Alfred Asiedu Adjei, urged Assembly Members to translate the knowledge acquired into responsible leadership, accountability and better service to their constituents.

He stressed that investments and resources under the Assembly’s oversight must “produce value,” while describing local government as the bedrock of national development.

The Mayor of Kumasi, Hon. Richard Kwasi Ofori Boadi Agyemang expressed appreciation to the facilitators and said he was confident the training would strengthen the capacity of members to effectively deliver on their mandate and serve the interests of government and Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene.

The Presiding Member, Hon.Patrick Kwame Frimpong, also encouraged participants to put their new knowledge into practice for the benefit of the people of Kumasi.

The programme ended with participants receiving certificates and souvenirs, marking the completion of an important step towards building stronger, more responsive and accountable local leadership.
