The residents of Mafi Tsati in the Central Tongu District of the Volta region and its adjourning communities are battling with an acute water shortage.
Tsati and its neighbouring towns though have been engulfed with intermittent water supply over the years, the situation has worsen within the past two months due to destruction caused to some of the pipe lines that connect water to the communities.
The destruction of the pipe lines was as a result of the on going construction of a road project from Mafi Kumase through Mafi Tsati to Bakpa Avedo.


The current dire circumstance has compelled the people to depend on water from abandoned ponds and other untreated sources of water for their domestic activities.

Unfortunately, some of the ponds have begun to dry up hence life is be becoming unbearable for them as they have to travel far away in search for water. In a statement issued by the secretary of Tsati community,

Mr. Maxwell Zutunu, an urgent appeal has been made to the Volta Regional Minister Mr. James Gunu,the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area

Mr.Alexander Gabby Hotorwodze,the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Central Tongu Mr.Dodzi Addison Mornyuie ,the Assembly Member for Tsati Electoral Area Mr. Hubert Afenyo Yawlui,Community Water and Sanitation Agency and other relevant authorities to help them to resolve the problem immediately.
“Although a good road network is one of our major developmental concerns, we must first stay alive to benefit from such development, because there is a saying which goes” Water is Life.”he stressed in the statement.

“We are passionately appealing to the authorities to supply water to the affected communities through the use of water tankers as an emergency measure” he appealed.
The statement also urged the concerned authorities in particular , the Volta Regional Minister to direct the contractor responsible for the road project to repair the damaged pipes lines in order to restore water supply to Tsati and its surrounding affected communities immediately.
Meanwhile Mr.Hubert Yawlui ,the Assembly Member for Tsati and some officials from Community Water and Sanitation (CWS)Unit from. Adidome have visited the affected areas to ascertain the extent of the problems.
Mr. Yawlui was however informed by the management of the CWS that the on going drainage works as a result of the road construction have to fully be completed to enable proper relocation of the main pipe line from Mafi Abure to the affected communities.He pleaded with the people to remain taciturn as he continued to explore all necessary efforts for the restoration of water supply to them.Story by Samuel Mensah Torbizo,
