Muslims Executive Foundation Chairman rallies Ghanaians for support for 5-year presidential term

By:Charles Ampong

The chairman of the Muslims Executive Foundation, Alhaji Musah Abubakari, has expressed his full support for the proposal to extend the presidential term to five years by the National Constitutional Review Committee.

He said, ‘This proposal makes sense, and every Ghanaian must embrace it.’ Alhaji Abubakari told this paper that the extension of the presidential term would save the nation financially because of the time frame to organise elections by the Electoral Commission. He explained that the four-year term does not favour the President of the day, as he will not get enough time to implement her policies.

He said, ‘Already there is limited time for the presidents to do more for the nation.’

“The four-year term is too small because it would even take even a year before the president finishes choosing his ministers and chief executives and uses the last year for campaigning.

So technically, the presidents would only have two years to work out of the four years.

He added. On the election of Odeneho Kwaku Appiah as Ashanti Regional NPP chairman, Alhaji Musah Abubakari wished him well but urged him to do a clean campaign.

He said, ‘Being the chairman doesn’t mean the party belongs to you, but rather you are choosing because of the confidence delegates repose in you.’

However, he said, Odeneho Kwaku Appiah must submit himself to the delegates who elected him to serve as compensation to them.
