NPP constitutional amendments critical to organisational structure – Frank Davies declares

Chairman of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Constitution Amendment Committee, Frank Davies, has described the proposed amendments to the party’s constitution as necessary steps to strengthen its organisational structure ahead of the 2028 general elections.

Speaking at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Saturday, October 3, during the NPP’s National Delegates Congress and Officers’ elections, Frank Davies explained that the proposed changes were intended to address gaps identified after the party’s previous constitutional review.

He said the amendments became necessary following the identification of certain omissions and areas that were not adequately addressed during the last constitutional amendment process.

He said the proposals before delegates were therefore aimed at correcting those gaps and putting the party in a stronger organisational position as it prepares for the next general election.

“These limited constitutional amendments were necessitated by some acts of omission and commission, which heralded the last amendment we had in 2025, so this is to cure the grey areas that we overlooked So, a limited number of amendments will be put to the delegates today, and they are very critical amendments that will plunge the party into a better shape to get ourselves ready for the 2028 elections.

“It is imperative that these amendments are carried through because of the ramifications they have for our party’s organisational structure.”

The proposed amendments form part of the first phase of the NPP’s National Delegates Congress, which is being held alongside the election of national officers.

One of the most notable proposals concerns the designation of the leader of the party.

At the NPP’s January 31 conference, the party introduced a provision stating that the National Chairman would be the leader of the party at all material times. Under the latest proposal, however, the party is seeking to amend that provision to designate the NPP’s flagbearer as the leader of the party.

Another significant proposal concerns the manner in which the Vice Chairpersons of the party are elected.

Under the existing arrangement, candidates contest the position of National First Vice Chairman, with the first, second, and third Vice Chairpersons subsequently determined according to the order of votes received.

The proposed amendment would change that arrangement by requiring candidates to indicate and contest specific Vice Chairperson positions instead of competing for a single position and being ranked according to the number of votes obtained.By:Kabah Atawoge
