Quality healthcare is a basic human need, and that includes persons in correctional facilities.

Representing the Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Frank Amoakohene, the Mayor of Kumasi, Hon. Richard Kwasi Ofori Boadi Agyemang , reaffirmed the importance of strengthening healthcare delivery within prison facilities during the Ashanti Regional launch of the Ghana Prisons Service’s Medicine and Equipment Bank initiative.

The Mayor commended the Ghana Prisons Service for introducing the initiative, which seeks to improve access to essential medicines and medical equipment for inmates and prison officers.

He also acknowledged the Regional Minister’s continuous support for the welfare of both inmates and staff of the Kumasi Prisons.

As a demonstration of that commitment, Hon. Richard Ofori Agyeman Boadi presented a donation of GH¢30,000 on behalf of the Regional Minister and the Regional Security Council to support the Medicine and Equipment Bank.

The regional launch, held at the Prempeh Assembly Hall, brought together distinguished guests, including Nana Debrah Bediako Boateng II, Sekyere Kwamanhene, representing the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, DDP James B. Mwinyelle, Ashanti Regional Prisons Commander, regional security heads, Members of Parliament, and traditional leaders.
