PRU EAST AGRIC DIRECTOR SHOWCASES ACHIEVEMENTS OF GOVT’S FLAGSHIP PROGRAMMES

The Pru East District Director of Agriculture in the Bono East Region, Dr. Nambe Jababu has revealed that the district has embraced the government’s flagship programs which are yielding positive results for the people.

 

Dr. Nambe Jababu was addressing  the people at Komkoba, a suburb of Yeji during 2022  Farmers Day celebration. He explained that the department has implemented key government flagship programmes through Planting for Food and Jobs and Planting for Export and Rural Development.

On the PFJ, he said, 8,145 kilograms of seed maize was distributed through registered PFJ retail outlets in the district to 241 Farmers to establish 905 acres of maize farms. In addition, he said 404 litres and 100 kilograms of  Fall Armyworm insecticides were also freely distributed to Farmers to combat the disease. Dr. Nambe Jababu further hinted that 2000 coconut seedlings were also received and freely distributed to interested Farmers to establish 36 acres of coconut plantation under Tree Crop Development Authority Seedling Support.

Under the same program, according to Dr. Nambe Jababu 1500 mango seedlings were also received and freely distributed  to Farmers to cultivate 38 acres of mango plantation.

He said, under the Planting for Export and Rural Development, 3100 cashew seedlings were given to 28 Farmers and 78 acres were established in 2022.

He thanked the Pru East District Assembly for sponsoring 90 percent of the total cost of the event. He also thanked YAPRA Rural Bank together with Amantin And Kasei Community Rural Bank for their contributions towards the event.

Dr. Nambe Jababu revealed that, to make Agriculture productive in the district, the department conducted over 2,304 farm and home visits to support crop and livestock Farmers on GAPs and sustainable agriculture. He noted that the department also conducted demonstrations and trainings which targeted at improving crops and lives productions. According to him, vaccinations and sensitization against scheduled livestock diseases such as anthrax, CBPP, PPR, rabies, new castle disease and black leg were also carried out.
